The U6K series from Hisense offers the greatest and the latest Mini-LED display technology and its price is something only a few can match. The company appears to have had success with affordable TVs and this is precisely what it has delivered with this one as well.
Design and build
When it comes to design, you will find that the U6K is relatively simple. You can find the series in 55-inch or 65-inch. There is a slim bezel around the display that also comes with the Hisense logo. A pair of slim feet ship with the TV and there are two different mounting points. The UK model comes with a rather impressive remote and it is downright enormous. There are a total of 12 pre-programmed shortcut buttons on top of the remote, but it does not have a button for dedicated settings. The remote for the US market is a lot more compact.
Picture and sound quality
The biggest offering of the U6K is that it offers the Mini-LED panel, which is relatively affordable. It boasts backlighting tech, which is capable of delivering the color separation and excellent contrast of OLED, but without the price tag. The panels have a 60Hz refresh rate and standard 4K resolution.
There is support for HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG standards, but it is not as bright as other panels. There is also an official game mode that you can use. In addition, Dolby Atmosis also available and if you pair it with speakers, the sound is quite decent. If you go with the built-in audio, then the sound is a bit thin and not too satisfying.
Ports and features
The port selection on the Hisense U6K is pretty typical, but the HDMI selection could be a bit disappointing. There are three HDMI 2.0 ports on the 65-inch model, which can be frustrating for those who have a lot of gaming consoles. You will also find two USB ports for power and connection, Ethernet for wired internet, a headphone jack, a Common Interface card slot, aerial sockets and an AV in. One bonus that you get with the TV is support for voice controls.
Software
When it comes to software, things get a bit tricky because it depends on the model. The US models of the U6K runs Google TV, which has a clean and simple OS. As for the model available in Europe and the UK, it runs the company’s own VIDAA OS, which is clunky and slow. The only good thing about it is that it offers support for most of the core apps that you are going to use and they are pre-installed.
Price
In the US, the Hisense U6K is priced at $579 and $799 for the 55-inch and 65-inch models and £999 and £1,299 in the UK. This pricing makes it very competitive because Samsung’s cheapest Mini-LED model starts at $1,199 and £1,399.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a Mini-LED on a budget, you cannot get better than U6K from Hisense that may not offer you a lot of frills, but does give you the best color contrast in this price tag.
