Handheld gaming is not a new concept, as brands like Nintendo have always dominated the market. A number of handheld gaming PCs have been introduced in recent years, including the Asus ROG Ally and Steam Deck. But, when it comes to the Logitech G Cloud, it is a bit different. It combines an Android experience with cloud gaming, which is similar to what you will see on a basic tablet.
Introduction
A handheld gaming console, the Logitech G Cloud has a design similar to Nintendo Switch. It is specifically designed with cloud services, such as NvidiaGeForce Now and Xbox Game Pass, in mind. This means that it does not come with powerful hardware because cloud services do the heavy lifting. It helps in keeping the weight and price down.
In terms of looks, the Logitech G Cloud is not very different from other handheld consoles, as the buttons and levers can be found on the sides, while display takes up the center. The buttons have a similar layout as that on an Xbox control and the same applies to the trackpad, bumper buttons, triggers and ABXY buttons.
Design and build
The Logitech G Cloud will feel just right in your hands, as it has rounded corners that fit in your palm and both sides have lightly textured materials that ensure a secure grip. It is easy to reach most buttons. With a weight of just 463g, the G Cloud is not too heavy, which means you can play on it for long periods of time without any issues. The slim profile and light weight also makes it easy to carry.
Display, speakers and battery
The 7-inch screen of the Logitech G Cloud is mostly impressive. It has 1080p resolution and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The display has an LCD panel, which means you will not get the same rich colors that an OLED panel can deliver. However, the colors still pop up enough and are quite impressive. The brightness is also decent.
There are dual stereo speakers on the bottom of the console, which are quite loud. But, if you place the console against something, it will muffle the sound due to their placement. The bottom also has a headphone jack that can deliver a more personal audio experience.
A 6,000mAH battery has been added, which helps the device deliver 12 hours of play. You can charge it via the USB-C port and it takes two hours for the console to fully charge.
Cloud gaming
The range of games that you can play on a console determine its longevity. The Logitech G Cloud is essentially dependent on cloud services. While there are numerous titles that you can enjoy via the Xbox Cloud Gaming, but it is a subscription, which means you have to pay for it every month. The titles also rotate routinely, so games come and go. The GeForce Now allows you to play a number of games on different libraries, such as Epic Games Store or Steam.
The Verdict
Available at a price of $349, the Logitech G Cloud can also function as an Android tablet, which makes it a decent investment.
