Roccat introduced its Vulcan 120 series back in 2018, which received a lot of praise. Its successor is the Roccat Vulcan II and it is quite impressive where specifications are concerned. The full-size keyboard is available in white and black, has a USB-A connection, 4Mb onboard memory and a 1.8m braided USB 2.0 cable attached to it permanently. It has a polling rate of 1,000 Hertz and boasts a 32-bit ‘ARM Cortex M0’ processor.
Design
The design of the Roccat Vulcan II is quite impressive. It looks great, thanks to its diamond-milled edges, the screw-less aluminum top plate and the flat and simple keycaps. But, these details are similar to what could be seen in its predecessors. Therefore, there is still room for improvement. The RGB backlighting is showcased quite well by the flat keycaps, but they are made from conventional ABS plastic, so they feel somewhat uninspiring and dull.
The wrist rest can be completely removed, but it is not that great either, because it is made of plastic and does not come with any padding. There is dedicated media control on the Vulcan II for basic multimedia functions, similar to its predecessors. A rotary knob can be used for volume control. Another nice feature is the RGB lighting that uses ‘AIMO’ technology. However, this is just another gimmick and does not really offer any such value. Roccat’s technology offers each key individual illumination in about 16.8 million colors.
Features
Roccat has incorporated its Easy-Shift technology in the Vulcan II, which gives almost every key a second function, as long as you press the Easy-Shift button. This sounds exciting, but PC gamers will have a little difficulty in mastering the numerous key combinations. But, when it comes to everyday productivity, it can be quite useful.
You can also get 100% anti-ghosting and N-key rollover, both of which will benefit PC gamers when it comes to precise and fast inputs. The Vulcan II also comes with Titan II mechanical switches, which is the first keyboard from Roccat to have them. They are pre-lubricated and typing feels very smooth. The Titan II comes with two color choices, red and brown and their key travel can vary.
Gaming performance
You will see the strength of the Vulcan II in gaming. The Titan II Red switches are precise and quick and this can often be extremely helpful during battle. You will enjoy a responsive and pleasant typing feel due to the actuation point, which is just 1.4mm, and the linear switching characteristic.
The Easy-Shift also proves to be very useful because it adds a second function level that comes in handy when you have to take different actions in a game. But, one thing to bear in mind is that the keyboard is big, so you will need to have enough space to set it up.
The Verdict
When you are looking for a comfortable and solid keyboard for gaming, the Roccat Vulcan II proves to be a good and consistent choice and is very classy.
