When it comes to delivering audio experiences, Denon is certainly a well-known name and it does more than a decent job. Its headphone models, mostly over-ear variants, have delivered a great performance consistently over the years. Therefore, there are high expectations associated with the PerL Pro, the company’s in-ear headphones.
The design
When you first glance at the PerL Pro, their design will come off as odd because they have a flat circular casing. This means that they protrude from your ear when you put the shells in place. Not everyone will appreciate the shape, but there is no denying that you will stand out when you are wearing these headphones.
Denon has provided a total of five pairs of adapters in various sizes. One of them is made of foam and four are of silicone. There are also a pair of ‘wings’ or fins to keep the headphones firm in your ear when you are working out.
The app
It does not take you long to install and connect the headphones to your phone. The mobile phone app boasts a number of interesting features and the most exciting one is MasimoAAT (Adaptive Acoustic Technology). This technology analyzes your ears to adapt the sound as per your hearing. It does so by sending test tones in your ear and measuring the microscopic sound response, which helps it in optimizing the sound. It calculates your personal sound profile as well.
While it may take a few minutes, the process is definitely worth it. You will notice a difference in sound quality. It is extremely rare to find in-ear headphones that are capable of reproducing sounds the way the PerL Pro do.
customization
The app also has an equalizer that can be used for customizing the sound further. You can also choose from features like Social Mode or Selective Noise Cancellation. As obvious, the former feature allows you to hear the outside sounds while you are wearing the headphones, while the latter is designed to block all outside noises. All of these are very good, as is the call quality.
There are eight microphones that have been added in the PerL Pro and two of them come with bone conduction sensors that are capable of picking up voice vibrations through the skull. This allows the receiver to hear you clearly and noise reduction is also optimized by the built-in processor in real-time, along with the call quality. This is done according to the current environmental conditions, which means that background noise wind noise is automatically suppressed.
You can also customize the function buttons on the cochlea, such as one press for pausing music and two press to move onto the next song and so on.
The Verdict
If there is one issue that people might have with the DenonPerL Pro, it is the price, as they cost a hefty $349. But, it is also a fact that the sound these headphones delivers makes it worth it because they have managed to blow their competition out of the water.
