For its latest smartwatch, Honor designed to change the design completely and has come up with a style that resembles some of the top watches in the market, both iOS and Android. The Honor Watch 4 is capable of running shoulders with some of the great smartwatches from prominent brands and it is certainly a good step forward for the company.
Design and build
When it comes to design of the Honor 4, the engineers have opted to turn it upside down, which means it does not resemble its predecessors at all. It comes in an eye-catching design, as the dial boasts polished and rounded edges. It is made of aluminum and is rectangular rather than circular and the size of the screen is about 1.75-inches.
You can use the button given on the side, or the touchscreen for operating the functions. You can easily wear the watch 24 hours a day because it weighs just 32g and its thickness is about 11.2mm. The display is activated with a light press and pressing again gives you access to the functions and apps installed by default. It has a typical charging base for the battery with a pair of contacts.
The straps are made of silicone and 20mm in size and feel soft. The watch is also dust and waterproof, thanks to its 5ATM and IP68 rating. There are two dial finishes available, black with a black strap and golden with a beige strap.
Screen and speaker
The AMOLED panel on the Honor Watch 4 looks good with decent brightness. It comes with a 390 x 450 resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. The power of the speaker will take you by surprise, as it supports Bluetooth calls and there is a microphone you can use to communicate.
Specs and performance
There is a micro-optical lens variety of sensors on the Watch 4 that can provide you with information like heart rate, stress, respiration, blood oxygen level and sleep quality. The watch has an intuitive and simple operation. You can access the settings function through a scrolling gesture on the top, while bottom gives you notifications.
According to the clock, it works with Magic OS 7.2 and it is quite agile. You can customize the cards on the screen. The watch does not offer support for NFC payments and you cannot use it with a voice assistant, which is a downside. But, there are useful features like searching for your phone by making it ring. Nonetheless, the ecosystem is limited and apps cannot be downloaded from Google Play Store.
Battery Life
Even though Honor claims that the battery of the Honor Watch 4 can last for 14 days, this simply is not true. But, the watch does last for a week on a single charge, depending on your usage. Another good thing about the battery is that it charges quickly, as it is able to charge it 100% within an hour, which is undoubtedly impressive.
The Verdict
The change in design and the improvement in interface are certainly advantages, but they still fall short of justifying the price tag of the Honor Watch 4 when compared with competitors in the market.
