Two years after launching the Tab P12 Pro, Lenovo has come up with the Tab P12 that offers a lot of the same features, but at half the price. The best part is that Lenovo has also added an optional package where you can get a full mechanical keyboard case, turning the device into an affordable productivity machine. While there is a lot of competition in this range, the Tab P12 has an excellent price tag for the features it provides.
Design and build
As compared to the Tab P12 Pro, the Tab P12 is bulkier and bigger. It is a full-sized tablet measuring 190.7mm x293.3mm x 6.9mm and weighs 630g, which is quite hefty. Other than bulk, you will find that the tablet is quite well-built and has an all-metal body that feels premium. It has flat edges and only the corners are curved. It is available in just one color called Storm Grey.
The power button can be found on the top-edge and it has a fingerprint sensor behind it. The Tab P12 also comes with the company’s Tab Pen Plus stylus that attaches to the back of the tablet through a little magnetized patch. The keyboard and case that Lenovo offers for the device are both decent in terms of build quality, as they are made of plastic.
As far as functionality is concerned, the keyboard cover is a good one. The keyboard itself offers a good mechanical typing experience. The app shortcuts are particularly useful.
Screen and speakers
The 12.7-inch display of the Tab P12 is bigger than its predecessor and other rivals. Plus, it also offers a 2944 x 1840 resolution, which means the screen remains just as sharp. The LCD panel might be a bit disappointing because it cannot compete with the AMOLED panel, but considering the price tag, it is quite reasonable. The refresh rate is also 60Hz.
There are also four JBL speakers that have been added and they come with Dolby Atmos support. While the sound may not be the richest, the speakers are decent and loud and offer good stereo separation.
Specs and performance
The MediaTekDimensity 7050 processor is quite decent, given that it just needs to manage a refresh rate of 60Hz. When combined with 8GB of RAM, the tablet handles almost everything pretty well. You can switch between apps, navigate without issues and even indulge in some light gaming. As far as storage is concerned, it offers you 128GB and there is also a microSD card, if you want more.
Cameras
When it comes to tablets, camera specifications and quality does not really matter, especially with such affordable ones. The Tab P12 offers a single 8Mp rear camera that comes with autofocus. Even though it is limited, it can still take acceptable snaps. The front camera is 13Mp and comes with an ultra-wide angle that is certainly good for video calls.
The Verdict
The Lenovo Tab P12 is different from the other mid-priced Android tablets in the market. It has an excellent display and even though it does not have the specifications and speed of some other competitors, its price is certainly attractive.
