If you want to have the genuine NBA experience, then you should give NBA2K24 a try because it boasts excellent on-court gameplay. In fact, it has managed to emulate the true beauty of pro basketball in terms of sounds, looks and feelings.
The additions
You will immediately realize that the on-court gameplay has gotten better and his makes the NBA2K24 downright fantastic. There have been a number of additions, which include the feature called ProPLAY. Here, 2K has taken footage from NBA and translated it into animations within the game in real time.
As compared to its predecessor, you will find that the NBA2K24 is a lot smoother in terms of court movements, which include pass, shooting and dribbling animations. Things feel more authentic due to the lesser number of immersion-breaking interactions.
This is obvious when you are playing teams with some of the best talent. For instance, when you choose players like LeBron James, you will find that they play and look similar to their real-life counterparts. The AI has improved significantly and you will feel challenged. The balls end up in the hands of the best players and the resulting action can be extremely fun due to improved animation.
The challenge
You will also see this challenge on the offensive side, where it is not that easy to exploit the classic tactics. In addition, the off-ball defenders are also able to understand their opponent. An interactive twist has also been given to the adrenaline boosting feature. You will not lose the boost when you dribble around, but lose it if a defensive player interrupts the movements of an offensive player. This can make defense extremely engaging.
But, not all the gameplay has made progress. You will still find fast-break gameplay lacking and this issue has plagued the series for about a decade now. Its absence is disappointing because it is one of the best elements of real-life basketball. Sometimes the AI also makes some baffling decisions and the commentary does not call them out either.
The modes
MyCareer is the most popular game mode on the NBA 2K24, but it mostly pushes you to make in-game purchases, which can get very frustrating. The location has been changed this year, as it is an open world with a beachfront that seems to be inspired by Miami. There are several game and court types to explore, but they are somewhat lopsided.
While there is no significant story mode to be found, there are some storylines, which are loosely connected that involve the created player named MP. After adding the Jordan Challenge in NBA 2K23, Mamba Moments have been added to NBA 2K24 for celebrating the historic career of Kobe Bryant. While it is not mightily impressive, it is still quite decent.
There is also a LeBron era that gives you control of the ‘Big Three’ Miami Heat back in 2011. The MyNBA Lite mode has also become more streamlined.
The Verdict
There are both upsides and downsides of the NBA 2K24, but if you want an authentic basketball experience, you should definitely give it a try.
