The latest addition that Samsung has made in its budget phone category is the Galaxy A04s. While the company does an outstanding job when it comes to developing expensive smartphones, the budget devices is where it struggles. The screen is 6.5-inch in size for the Galaxy A04s and the device is made of glossy black plastic. The power button comes with a built-in fingerprint reader and the side is where you will also find dual SIM slots and a microSD card slot.
Specs and performance
Samsung has opted to use its own Exynos850 chipset for the Galaxy A04s and it comes with 3GB RAM in the basic model. Even when the chipset was introduced back in 2020, it was nothing special and the same remains the case still. There is 32GB of storage available, which is limited and this is where the microSD card support can be helpful.
As far as performance is concerned, given the processor and the RAM, it is understood that the Galaxy A04s is not a fast phone. It takes time to load large apps and the entire interface has mini-delays in almost everything.
Display and sound
The screen of the Galaxy A04s is a 720p panel and it has a refresh rate of 90Hz, which means it is sharp enough. The brightness is mediocre and the PLS-type LCD panel offers adequate contrast. The colors are acceptable, but nothing special or out of the ordinary. There is just one speaker at the bottom of the device, which is clear in terms of voices, but not very useful for film and music. But, this is to be expected from a budget device. Samsung does offer you the 3.5mm headphone jack that you can use for plugging in headphones for better sound output.
Cameras
There are three cameras that you will find on the rear of the device, which include a 50Mp main camera, a support sensor for depth perception and a 2Mp macro camera. There is no ultra-wide photography here, but the 2x zoom mode does make digital zooming easy and the image produced is of good quality. The camera performance is quite decent in daylight and the dynamics are also good. But, shooting at night may not be such a pleasant experience
Battery and connectivity
Samsung has opted to add a 5,000mAh battery to the Galaxy A04s and when combined with the power-efficient PLS screen and moderate performance, the battery does last long enough. There is no charger included in the box, but the phone offers support for 15W USB-C charging. As far as connectivity is concerned, the phone comes with 4G connectivity and Wi-Fi 5 support and both of them are stable and fast.
When it first came out, the phone had Android 12, but now it is shipped with Android 13 as well as Samsung’s UI 5.1.
The Verdict
There are not many reasons for you to purchase the Samsung Galaxy A04s, other than the fact that it is a fully functional device that you can find at a very low price.
