TV manufacturer TCL has also dipped its toes in the tablet market, as it launched the Nxtpaper 10 last year and now it has come up with its sequel. However, it is not the next generation of Nxtpaper, rather it is an indication of the screen size.
The impression
A look at the specifications shows that the TCL Nxtpaper 11 is meant to be a cheap tablet and is priced accordingly. It boasts MediatekHelio P60T, which is about six-years old and has eight cores. 128GB of flash memory has been added, along with 4GB of RAM. Instead of Wi-Fi 6 or 6E, it comes with a Wi-Fi 5 connection.
The screen is certainly worth noting, as it comes with a sharp IPS panel that has a resolution of 2,000 x 1,200 pixels. Plus, it also comes with AI-controlled and automatic color temperature adjustment. TCL appears to have done a pretty decent job when it comes to providing luxury in build and design, while still maintaining a low price tag.
The aluminum chassis feels high quality and solid and gives the tablet a sleek look. In fact, you might confuse it for a Samsung Galaxy Tab, or even Apple iPad. It feels lavish and stylish and this is undoubtedly appealing.
Similar to paper
The most prominent feature of TCL Nxtpaper 11 is the paper-like, matt screen surface. Even though it is a regular IPS screen and not e-paper, the surface has been treated and this makes looking at it more comfortable. The best part is that it eliminates screen reflections and also prevents fingerprints on the screen.
When you point and tap on the screen’s surface, it will feel very smooth. The tablet works quite well visually and it can also give you the feeling of using a Kindle if you set the screen on monochrome mode. The tablet also comes with stylus support, but third-party pens are not supported. You will have to buy the ‘T-Pen’ separately, as it has not been included in the box.
Performance
If you are expecting a tablet that works super-fast, then you are in for disappointment. As mentioned earlier, the TCL Nxtpaper 11 has been designed as a cheap tablet. Therefore, you will find performance to be on the low end, both in terms of connection as well as processor. Web browsing can be a bit frustrating, but apps like YouTube, Google Photos and Google Maps work just fine.
There are four speakers that you will find and they deliver well-rounded bass and powerful stereo sound. No analogue headphone port is provided, so you will be required to use the USB port or Bluetooth for external audio.
Simple cameras and good battery
There are two 8Mp cameras you will find, one above the screen and the other on the back. The quality is somewhere in the middle, as expected of a budget device. The 8,000 mAh battery is good enough for an 11-inch tablet and it gives a decent runtime.
The Verdict
Since it is a cheap tablet, the Nxtpaper 11 has its own advantages and disadvantages. The screen and battery are certainly impressive, but performance might be a tad disappointing.
