Windows has improved its touchscreen support radically and while it cannot replace a mouse in every situation, it works quite well with modern websites and apps. If you want to take advantage of Windows’ touch functionality on a desktop PC, you can check out the Dell P2424HT touchscreen monitor. Boasting a resolution of 1080p and a 24-inch IPS touchscreen, the monitor also comes with Gigabit Ethernet and USB-C connectivity.
Design and build
The Dell P2424HT looks like your typical office monitor. It comes with a matte-black rear panel, slim bezels and a silver metallic stand. All of these have a professional and reserved tone. But, a closer look at the stand shows that it is quite odd because it is not straight and sits at an angle with pivot points on the top and bottom of the stand neck.
Tilting the monitor forward becomes easier this way for easy touchscreen access. The lower lip even has a pair of rubber bumpers for helping the monitor in gripping the surface of the desk when it is tilted. Dell has also managed to solve the cable issue. The rear of the monitor has a cable guide and the second one can be found in the base of the stand neck. They can keep the cords in control when the monitor is tilted backward or forward.
Touchscreen
The 10-point multi-touch touchscreen is obviously the biggest highlight of the Dell P2424HT. It is easy to miss it if you do not know that the monitor supports touchscreen. While there is a glossy panel on most touchscreen monitors, this one comes with a semi-gloss coat similar to what you see on a non-touch office monitor.
But, once you start using it, the touchscreen on the Dell P2424HT does not disappoint. It has a quick response and gives you a pleasant and smooth surface to navigate. You do not need any special software or drivers to function. To use the touchscreen, you do need to connect to the USB-C port of the monitor, but it can also be used over DisplayPort or HDMI.
Connectivity and Menus
The USB-C connectivity that the Dell P2424HT offers is also quite impressive. There is a USB-C input that comes with a DisplayPort Alternate Mode. It drives an additional USB-C port, three USB-A downstream ports, along with a Gigabit Ethernet port for providing wired internet connectivity. The left side of the monitor has a hidden panel where you can find one of the downstream USB-A ports as well as the only downstream USB-C port.
The connectivity that the Dell P2424HT offers is a major improvement over other touchscreen monitors, as most lack USB-C. You can also find one DisplayPort input and one HDMI. There is also a 3.5mm audio-out port, which might be needed because there are no speakers. The menu system uses a single power button and you can navigate the on-screen menu with a joystick control. While it is responsive and speedy, it comes with limited image quality options.
The Verdict
The Dell P2424HT proves to be an excellent touchscreen monitor that offers good image quality and solid USB-C connectivity.
