Some of the most impressive features have been incorporated in the newest Pixel smartphones from Google. But, there has also been a rise in price due to these new improvements. The flagship Pixel 8 Pro boasts the new Tenor G3 processor and a host of AI camera features, but only minor tweaks to the design.
Design and Build
The Pixel 8 Pro and the Pixel 7 Pro look remarkably similar, unless you are a super Google fan. The rear has a metal camera bar that contains the lenses, but this model also comes with a temperature sensor located below the flash. Matt glass has been used for making the rest of the phone that has a ceramic-like feel and look, which gives it the premium touch. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has been used for durability. It comes in three colors, which are Porcelain, Bay and Obsidian, which means cream, blue and black.
The Pixel 8 Pro measures 162.6 x 76.5 x 8.8mm and weighs about 213g. It is excellent for watching videos, but the size makes it a bit difficult to use for people with smaller hands. Polished aluminum is used for the chassis, which is 100% recycled.
Screen and Speakers
The flagship phone comes with an outstanding display. It is flat rather than curved and the 6.7-inch OLED Super Actua display has a resolution of 2992 x 1344. It is undoubtedly excellent for watching videos and the brightness is also exceptional. It has a VRR refresh rate and this can change from 1Hz to 120Hz, depending on what you are doing.
The Pixel 8 Pro comes with stereo speakers that are quite loud, which makes them great for YouTube videos and podcasts. There is no headphone jack, but you can always use Bluetooth headphones. It has responsive and clipped haptics and you can also adjust the level of touch feedback.
Specs and Performance
The Tensor G3 is the all-new processor that powers Google’s Pixel 8 Pro sand the company says that it is the biggest machine learning model to have been introduced. The phone has 12GB of RAM, which is quite generous and you have multiple storage options, which include 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage.
The AI capabilities of the new chip have been the focus and the smartphone is certainly able to deliver on them. The focus is not on powerful performance, but this will only become evident if you are a massive mobile gamer. Otherwise, you can do multitasking, browsing and scrolling on social media easily.
Camera
The camera setup is downright fantastic on the Pixel 8 Pro. The 50Mp main camera comes with a generous sensor of 1/1.3-inch and f/1.68 aperture. It also has impressive technology that allows it to capture more details and let in more light. Google has upgraded the ultrawide camera, as it is now 48Mp instead of 12. The telephoto lens is same as the predecessor at 48Mp and there is a 10.5Mp selfie camera on the front.
The Verdict
The price of the Pixel 8 Pro starts at $999 and increases, depending on the storage. It looks luxurious and offers a lot of what you would expect from a premium flagship phone.
