Amongst the recent tablets from Samsung, it is the company’s Ultra models that steal most of the attention due to their widescreen form factor, large displays and unusual notch. While the Galaxy Tab S8 is no longer the latest model, it still has features and specifications that make it a good bet.
Design and Build
In terms of design, the Galaxy Tab S8 looks like other premium products. It has an 11-inch display, which is slim at 6.3mm thick and light. The metal body has squared off edges that you can hold comfortably and the display has a bezel that gives you space to rest your fingers and thumb. You can find the tablet in three colors, which are Pink Gold, a darker graphite and simple silver.
There is a small camera module on the back and a black strip below it where you attach the S Pen stylus. Protective Gorilla Glass 5 is used for protecting the display and metal rear also feels solid. On the side, there is a fingerprint sensor that has been built into the power button.
Display and Audio
The Galaxy Tab S8 is the only one in the series to use an LCD display rather than AMOLED. But, the panel still has the 120Hz refresh rate, which means you still get to enjoy a silky smooth screen. Despite being an LCD, it still manages to be excellent, as you get vivid, bright and punchy colors and there is a 2560 x 1600 resolution.
This makes it good enough for gaming, Netflix and Instagram. The S Pen stylus is the only accessory that comes in the box and it is good for note-taking and doodling. While a keyboard case is also supported, it does not come in the box. As far as audio is concerned, there are quad speakers included, which deliver stereo sound, as they fire out of the bottom or top of the tablet. They are bright and crisp and suitable for gaming and streaming TV, but not for music.
Specs and Performance
The Galaxy Tab S8 comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, which is the flagship chip from Qualcomm from early last year. Even though it is no longer the most powerful one, it boasts a lot of power. When combined with 8GB of RAM, the tab is powerful enough for any task, including multitasking. In fact, it can also be used for creative work or gaming. As for storage, you have the option of 128GB or 256GB and a microSD card slot is also available.
Battery
The battery life of the Galaxy Tab S8 is respectable, as it comes with an 8000mAh cell and should last for a day of consistent use. But, if you use it every now and then, then the tab will last you for a couple of days. 45W charging speeds are supported, which is the charging system that Samsung also offers on its Android devices.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a premium Android tablet, you cannot go wrong with the Galaxy Tab S8 and does not lack in any major department.
