The Swift Edge 16 is one of the first laptops that comes with the Ryzen 7 7840U from AMD, which has the latest Zen architecture. It should be noted that you can also find the notebook in other configurations, including an older AMD CPU and with Intel, but with an inferior screen, so you should look at the specifications before you make a purchase.
Specs and Performance
Since the processor’s model has a U at the end, it means the same thing as in the case of Intel processors; it is built for light and thin laptops. This means that its performance should be good for doing office work and surfing and also keep the power consumption and heat under control.
Not only does the Swift Edge 16 work well for office and web work, but you can also use it for simple video and image editing. It comes with 16GB DDR5 memory, but some markets also have a model that comes with 32GB. The Radeon 780M that boasts the latest RDNA 3 technology is also 30% more powerful that the Iris Xe from Intel where computing power is concerned.
Therefore, it offers greater advantage when it comes to games. This does not mean that you will be able to run demanding games because those need a separate graphics card. But, as long as you adjust the graphics settings, you can play most games easily. The GPU can give you extra speed if you are interested in using programs like Adobe Photoshop.
The Battery
The Swift Edge 16 also comes with a four-cell battery that can give you anywhere between 3 and 10 hours of active use, depending on the processor load and screen brightness. If you play games on it, then the battery will not last more than two hours. The screen is 16-inch in size and has a high frame rate and resolution, due to which its battery runs out faster than 13-inch devices.
Screen and Ports
The 16-inch OLED screen of the Swift Edge 16 delivers excellent contrast and has a 3200 x 2000 resolution. Since it is spread over a large screen, you can use it for multitasking. HDR support is also included and the brightness is excellent, which means you can enjoy vivid and dynamic pictures. The refresh rate is 120Hz, which means you get smooth operation when you are handling the interface.
There are two USB 4 ports available that can be used for charging, but they are not Thunderbolt 4 compatible. But, you can connect chargers, USB accessories and monitors. Along with the two ports, there are two large USB 3 Type-A ports, headphone jack and HDMI ports included. A microSD card slot has also been included.
Design and Build
The Swift Edge 16 weighs under 1.3kg, which means it is quite lightweight for its size. You can carry it around comfortably. The thin metal chassis is resilient and the keys also have good mechanical resistance. The webcam can provide 1440p images with nice dynamics and sharp brightness, but it does not offer face unlock.
