While the Apple Watch Series 9 it not exactly an exciting update, it does come with a number of significant improvements. One of the biggest feature that has been introduced is Double Tap, but there are plenty of other features that have also been added.
Design and Display
Considering that the smartwatch software has now begun its 10th generation, it is not surprising to see that there are no radical design changes and the screen remains rectangular. In appearance, the Series 9 looks just like Series 8, which looked like Series 7 and so on. Over the years, the company has made the screen bigger, but it has now reached a point where the devices would become too big and this is not something anyone wants or needs.
Therefore, Apple has focused on brightness this time around and the Watch 9 is actually two times as bright as its predecessor. It increases its brightness automatically to deal with the ambient conditions. Otherwise, the design remains unchanged, in terms of buttons, sensors and charger. You can use the digital crown for scrolling through messages, menus and get the same haptic feedback as before.
You also get a built-in speaker for hearing Siri, making phone calls and microphones for letting you talk. The Watch 9 is also water-resistant, but its storage has been doubled to 64GB, which allows you to store podcasts and music on the device. There is also the environmental aspect, as the watch gives you the option of choosing one that is carbon neutral.
Smart features and WatchOS
To get the most out of your Apple Watch, you need to have an iPhone. The 10th version of watchOS has been given a big overhaul, so it takes some time to get used to it. The Smart Stack is the biggest change, which is a series of cards that can be seen upon rotating the digital crown. These can be customized as per your preference. Double Tap can be used for showing the stack and moving through it. This feature is available on all watches supporting watchOS 10.
But, Double Tap is only available in the S9 chip. Based on the architecture similar to A16 Bionic processor used in iPhone 14 Pro, it is more energy-efficient and twice as fast at processing. You can also process Siri commands on the Watch 9 rather than sending them to the cloud.
Health and Fitness tracking
Not only does the Series 9 works as an extension of your phone, it also serves as a great fitness monitor. The watch can be used for measuring your blood oxygen, heart rate, tracking your sleep, performing an ECG and tracking your monthly cycle. It is also highly accurate.
The Watch Series 9 also comes with different workouts and you can track the data easily. You can also pair it with your gym equipment. It is also good for motivating you to stay active.
The Verdict
Priced at $399, the Apple Watch Series 9 is a good option for those who have not upgraded their watch for a while and have also bought the iPhone 15.
