Apple has designed the Ultra Watch primarily for adventurers, such as hikers, divers and other athletes who require a long-lasting and rugged smartwatch that can cope with extreme weather and endurance events. Therefore, it is twice as expensive as compared to a regular Apple Watch. In fact, its high price has actually made it a status symbol. However, it is very distinct from the other Apple Watch series, which means it is easy to stand out.
Design and Display
If you have not seen the Watch Ultra, then you should know that it is like the regular Apple Watch, only on steroids. It boasts a larger display of 49mm, a bigger crown that you can use easily even when you are wearing gloves. There is also an additional button called the Action button, which you can customize for doing different things.
The Watch Ultra is covered with a flat sapphire crystal, which offers extra protection, thanks to the metal case around it. 95% recycled titanium is used to make the case, which makes it very durable. A raised crown guard is given to prevent accidental pressing of the side button and the crown. The Watch Ultra 2 is about 14mm thick and 62g heavy and you can wear it comfortably.
There are three microphones that make it easy to speak on call. An ambient light sensor is also available that automatically switches to night mode when the light is low. There is also a second-gen ultrawideband chip that helps you in finding your lost iPhone. Brightness has also been upgraded, but it is the screen size that makes the biggest difference because it helps you see a lot of information in one go.
Health and Fitness Tracking
Apple’s latest S9 chipset is behind the 49mm display. This means that it offers the same health and fitness tracking features as Watch Series 9. You get data like distance, steps, calories burned and flights climbed. The Health app on your phone also offers a lot more data, such as the length of your walking steps and the speed you walk.
Likewise, you can also track your activity during exercise. The variety of sports has been expanded and you can customize each with the goals you wish to achieve. All you have to do is press the Action button to start a workout. It works quite well for cycling, walking and running. Other than fitness and activity tracking, the Watch Ultra 2 is also capable of monitoring different aspects of your health. These include your heart rate, the quality of your sleep and more.
Smart features and watchOS
There are some radical changes thanks to the watchOS 10. You can see the new Smart Stack when you rotate the crown upwards. These informational cards can be customized with different things. You can use the digital crown to scroll through these cards, or use the Double Tap feature, which is new. This means that you do not have to tap on the screen for dismissing a timer, answering a call, or even when beginning a workout. But, you can get the most benefits of the smart features if you use the Watch Ultra 2 with iPhone because it will not really work with Android.
The Verdict
As long as money is not a problem and you want the best Apple Watch, then the Watch Ultra 2 is definitely the top choice.
