It appears that Motorola decided to rethink its Neo line, as the manufacturer has opted for a nicer-looking and bigger device in the form of Edge 40 Neo, as opposed to its predecessor and also comes with a curvier and larger display. But, despite this, the phone actually costs less, which is undoubtedly impressive.
Design and build
The Motorola Edge 40 Neo feels and looks great. It comes with a curve display and a solid, matt-plastic back that does not feel cheap at all. It is available in three colors, which include Caneel Bay, Black Beauty and Soothing Sea. Even though this device is bigger than the Edge 30 Neo, but it still manages to be compact and is about 7.9mm thick. Most importantly, it weighs just 172g and this makes it easy to carry around.
Screen and speakers
The Edge 40 Neo comes with a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display that offers you a large display, but not too big to make it difficult to hold. It boasts a refresh rate of 144Hz, which is quite impressive, given the price tag of the phone. Most notably, the display is a vibrant OLED, which means it boasts natural and rich colors and is quite bright too.
There are a set of stereo speakers that have been incorporated in the phone and they are decent for the price. They are clear and loud and Dolby Atmos support is also available when you connect headphones.
Specs and performance
MediaTek’s Dimensity 7030 SoC powers the Edge 40 Neo, which may not be a mainstream chip, but it is definitely a big step forward. You will have a smooth experience when you use the device, even with the 144Hz refresh rate. Even though it may not load the webpages and apps like a true flagship, most people will not feel a big difference. There is 12GB of RAM available, along with 256GB of storage.
Cameras
The camera system of the Edge 40 Neo comprises of the 50Mp 1/1.5in Omnivision OV50A sensor, which is backed by OIS and it can scoop up more light and capture well-balanced and detailed shots. The camera is very pleasant and shoots quite well in most conditions. The colors look natural and rich, even during low lighting conditions.
There is also a 13Mp ultra-wide camera, which is quite respectable. No telephoto camera is included, but there is a 32Mp selfie camera, which offers basic detail, but nothing too impressive.
Battery life
There is a 5000mAh battery included in the Edge 40 Neo, which is a decent size, as it lasts for a full day of heavy use and there is still some left at the end of the day. This is quite impressive, given that the display has a 144Hz refresh rate.
The Verdict
The Edge 40 Neo from Motorola turns out to be a startlingly complete device that offers a better design and build quality than its predecessor and even competitors offering phones in the same category. The display is fluid and bright and the strong performance makes it an excellent choice.
