There are numerous underpowered handsets in the budget phone sector that leave you feeling dissatisfied and disappointed. But, the same does not apply to the Motorola Moto G54 5G. While it may not be able to keep up with the latest flagship devices from Samsung, or iPhone, but this is because it is a budget phone. Still, it manages to feel more expensive than it actually is. It boasts 8GB of RAM, an eight-core processor, a 120Hz refresh rate and even 256GB of storage.
Design and Build
One look at the Motorola Moto G54 and you can see that it is a businesslike phone. The camera bulge is shaped like a briefcase that breaks the clean lines of the phone and there is a simple Motorola logo on the rear. The top of the device also has a Dolby Atmos logo, but it is barely visible. The other ports and buttons are either raised subtly, or hidden at the bottom.
It does not have anything colorful that sticks out, even though the phone is available in several colors. It sticks to the mold for the most part. The power button has the fingerprint scanner built into it. The phone looks very sophisticated and it will likely age well. It also feels light and you can grip it easily due to the flattened sides. The camera bulge does not stick out a lot, which is another advantage. The design may be a bit restrained, but you can always give your phone a touch of personality with a case.
Screen and Speakers
The Moto G54 comes with an IPS LCD screen, which can be a bit disappointing, given that it is not AMOLED, or OLED. But, it still manages to do a good job with a resolution of 1080×2400 and a 120Hz refresh rate. The brightness of 500 nits is also quite impressive. The screen is sharp and crisp and the interface is a very smooth one. Moreover, it also has great colors and you can adjust them in settings if you want.
The screen bezels are not too thick, but the screen is reflective, which could be a downside when there are light sources nearby. The speaker is functional, but not really suitable for listening to music or watching videos. It is best to use Bluetooth 5.3 for that, or go with headphones. The stereo speakers are good for phone calls and nothing more.
Specs and Performance
The specs of the phone do come as a surprise, as it has a MediaTek Dimensity 7020 processor with eight cores, combined with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. MicroSD card support is offered for expanding storage. The screen is responsive, the phone unlocks quickly and it does not slow down even during games. There is a game mode available as well. The phone supports 5G and it is Dual-SIM too.
The Verdict
Anyone who is in the market for a budget phone will certainly have plenty of options, but Motorola has tried to one-up its competitors with the Moto G54 and proves to be successful for the most part.
