The Samsung Galaxy Buds FE are a cheaper alternative of the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro and manage to deliver a good performance and even seem to have some advantages over its premium counterpart.
The differences
To begin with, you will immediately notice the difference in the design of the headphones. The Galaxy Buds FE do not have the rounder touch surface seen in the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, as it is flat and cut off. This is certainly more practical because it reduces the possibility of accidental touches and Samsung has given the right amount of sensitivity to the touch controls.
Another difference between the two is that the Galaxy Buds FE come with a pair of ‘wings’ and this means that they are a lot more comfortable and stable in your ears. It is also possible to remove these wings if you want. The company has also given three pairs of ‘plugs’ for ensuring a perfect fit.
The two are not very different in terms of weight, given that the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro weigh 5 grams, while Galaxy Buds FE weigh 5.5 grams. But, the latter do have a lighter charging case, which weighs 40 grams, as opposed to the 44 grams of the charging case for the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
The limits
It should be noted that there is a limit to how much the settings can be adjusted in regard to the touch controls. You cannot change what to do with the single, double or triple taps and only alter what happens when you press and hold. Another problem is that the app is only accessible to Android users, which means that if you have an iPhone, then you cannot change any settings at all.
iPhone users will also miss out on features like the headphone fit test, equalizer and ‘find my headphones’. The functions of the Galaxy Buds FE are also limited on Android as compared to Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
The sound
Even though the Galaxy Buds FE are delicate and small, they sound good. While they may not be able to reach the same heights as the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, but given the price, they do quite well. The noise reduction is also decent, but you cannot adjust its settings; only turn it on and off. However, the tight design and wings are helpful here because they are helpful in passive noise reduction.
Moreover, you can also enjoy crisp, noise-free and clear phone calls. The battery life has also been improved in the Galaxy Buds FE, as they can give 30 hours of listening without noise cancellation. But, it is still not too impressive. There are competitors that have a longer battery life. It is also worth noting that the Galaxy Buds FE do not support wireless charging. There is support for voice control available, including both Alexa and Google Assistant.
The Verdict
The Galaxy Buds FE are able to deliver a good performance in their price, but still lack in some areas like battery life.
