Zombie games are a great choice for VR because at first they make you feel overconfident until you realize just how challenging it is to take down the undead targets. In Arizona Sunshine 2, you will find yourself struggling to survive the horde of zombies coming at you. Sure, it does get a bit repetitive at times, but it is certainly fun.
The story
You can play the game solo, or also go with the two-player co-op and the story is pretty straightforward. It is a linear shooter that involves action 75% of the time in which you have to take down throngs of zombies and reduce them to chunky soup. 25% of the game is about puzzle solving and exploration where you have to collect weapons for effectively dealing with the zombies.
The pace is quite enjoyable, but not too fast and the entire campaign will not last for more than 15 hours. No new enemies are introduced, but then again, zombie games do not really get old. The headshot kills are truly satisfying and it does not get dull. If you enjoy gore, then you will find Arizona Sunshine II to be a spectacular fit and the sound effects are also great.
The change
As compared to its predecessor, the Arizona Sunshine II has received a graphical upgrade and that will be quite obvious when you engage with the zombies. This is to be expected, given that the sequel has been launched after seven years. The complexity of reloading is another big change you will come across. Previously, it was possible to reload one-handed, as you only had to eject a spent magazine and then bonk the gun against your chest for a new one.
Now, you have to eject the magazine, use the other hand to grab a new one and jam it in and then chamber a round before you begin firing. If you leave one round in the chamber, then you do not have to take the last step for swapping magazines. This can be worth it, given that every single second counts.
The weapons
It is possible to have three guns and it is definitely fun to have multiple options. You can use the 9mm pea shooters, or go with the six-shot revolver. You will also find combat shotguns, uzis and light machine guns, each of which have their own unique reloading process. Realism is not exactly the priority when it comes to Arizona Sunshine II and you will notice this when you drop your gun and it ends up in your holster.
This is certainly convenient because it allows you to load a weapon without having to juggle. You will also find melee weapons, such as a crowbar, different axes, machetes and even cleavers. Using them on zombies is undoubtedly fun, if you want to try a personal and up close splattering. The presence of the dog Buddy is also a change and you will be constantly reminded that he is a good boy.
The Verdict
Arizona Sunshine II manages to ramp up the pressure repeatedly with hordes of zombies coming towards you and then gives you the reward in the form of gore. You are always on your toes and completely engaged, which makes it worth your time.
