If you are a fan of VR, Asgard’s Wrath 2 is the perfect game for you to enjoy because it is an extremely ambitious open world that manages to imagine what a big-budget and massive RPG. During its runtime of more than 90 hours, the game manages to reinvent itself a number of times and it is undoubtedly a standout sequel that everyone is bound to enjoy.
Each of the four playable characters are quite different and unique and mastering all of them is a world of fun. The load of secrets that are ready to be discovered and the deep RPG mechanics make it very difficult for anyone to top playing. You can lose dozens of hours in the exploration, combat and puzzles that are deeply satisfying and action-packed.
The sequel
The predecessor of Asgard’s Wrath 2 is worth playing and extremely good and this one builds upon its various successes. In fact, it has actually improved and expanded on almost everything, which include exploration and combat and even the animal companions that accompany you during your journey. Fighting huge bosses in dungeons and solving puzzles is just as much fun.
There are plenty of reasons for you to go off the beaten path and then explore the world as much as you want. You never know when you might find a terrifying boss in a cave, or a sewer hidden under a small crack in the mountain and this makes the exploration very interesting.
The story
The story of the sequel starts where you left off the predecessor, with you in control of a God who has the ability of possessing and empowering mortals who have been left in a cell after having been betrayed by Loki, the God of Mischief. While you may not recognize some characters if you didn’t play the first game, you do not really need to understand the backstory to know what is happening here.
Luckily, there is also a recap that can catch you up, but all you need to understand is that Loki is not a very nice guy and you do not like him. You are plucked from prison by a higher power and then go on an unrelated quest to Egypt, while you try to get revenge on Loki.
The change
The decision of moving away from the usual Norse mythology, which has now become overused, towards an Egyptian pantheon is actually a smart one because it brings some fresh faces and there are also some new sights to see other than stone halls and frozen mountains. The change in focus means that the overarching story slows down, but this is not necessarily a bad thing.
The most surprising element of the game is the sheer amount of content. While VR games tend to be short and sweet, this does not apply to Asgard’s Wrath 2. There are random encounters that require you to complete mini objectives and there is lots of fighting as well.
The Verdict
Asgard’s Wrath 2 is a fantastic full-fledged VR RPG that comes with satisfying combat and unique stories and characters that will keep you hooked till the end.
