A range of affordable earbuds have been developed by Belkin and the SoundForm Bolt are its entry-level option that have a very small cash outlay and they come in a protective charging case that can be found in three colors; teal and lavender, white and black. As with more expensive earbuds, you will not find active noise cancelling (ANC), but it offers clear sound quality and a decent battery life.
Design and build
The Bolt buds are fatter and squatter than Apple’s Airpods and they come in a large, matte-finish oval charging case, with three pairs of ear tips available in different sizes. The back is where you will find a USB-C charging port and four LEDs, which show the remaining battery charge. Since there is no supporting app, you cannot see how much battery is left in each bud like with pricier buds.
The buds will not feel heavy in your ear because they weigh 4.5g each. You are given three silicone tips in the box and you can try them out as a proper fit will give you in-ear stability and better sound quality. It comes with IPX4 water resistance, which is basic, but should keep the buds free from sweat and rain. They come with Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and they have a strong connection.
Features
Pairing the Bolt buds is extremely easy and it happens in less than a minute. You can touch the buds for controlling different features. One tap can be used for play/pause, two can be used to take/end a phone call, or moving to the next song, three taps take you to the previous song and holding for 2 seconds can be used to activate the microphone or blocking calls.
The buds do not come with the option of volume control, which is not surprising for budget earbuds. They have a Mono mode that enables you to use one earbud at a time for extending battery life, or for staying aware of your surroundings. There is no auto-pause i.e. wear detection, which means that if you take out your buds, the song will continue playing until you stop it manually.
Sound quality
6mm dynamic drivers have been used inside the Bolt earbuds for delivering a clear sound. In a busy environment, the sound from the Bolt earbuds seems to be a bit tinny, but they sound a lot better when you are using them in a quiet space. The volume is quite loud, so you will not have any complaints. Whether you listen to podcasts, or audiobooks, the Bolt buds have solid voice and audio quality and they sound clear.
There is only one mic per bud, as compared to Belkin’s SoundForm Pulse earbuds that come with six mics. But, they still have an impressive quality, even though their price tag is significantly lower.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a spare or entry-level set of earphones with a number of colors, the Belkin Bolt earbuds have a decent battery life and offer reasonable audio quality at a bargain price.
