The PlayStation 5 has now been in the market for three years, which means that the number of controller options available for the console have increased significantly. One such option is the Nacon Revolution 5 Pro that offers some unique tricks, which include direct pairing with Bluetooth headphones.
Design and features
Just like the Nacon Revolution X Pro Controller for the Xbox series, the Revolution 5 Pro has been developed for the PlayStation 5 and comes with some prominent upgrades over the previous one. These include direct Bluetooth headphone pairing and wireless play. The layout of the controller is similar to that of the Xbox thumbstick, which seems odd for a controller that has been designed for the PS5.
There are dozens of customizable parts you will find, which include three sets of interchangeable thumbstick toppers. One set of tall toppers has been designed for sniping and precision, there are convex toppers aimed at quick gameplay and default concave thumbsticks. Optional stick guards are available that can be installed around the base of each thumbstick.
The adjustable controller weights is also another unique customization option that the Revolution 5 Pro has to offer. There are removable covers on the back of both controller stems and they have a small barbell-like weight that you can add into the grip for increasing, or decreasing the weight of the controller. You will find three weight options, which are 10, 14 and 16g.
As for the face buttons, they are clicky and large and do not wiggle a lot. They are very responsive and you will find pressing them easy. The center of the controller has the touchpad and it is grip-less and smooth. The circular design of the D-pad allows 360-degree input, which is great when you are playing fighting games. The shoulder buttons are also responsive and snappy and the L2 and R2 buttons come with dotted grip for keeping your fingers in place.
Software
You can use the Revolution 5 Pro for both PS4 and PS5 out of the box without any additional software, but if you want to use it on PC, then you will need to download the optional Revolution 5 Pro app for customizing some of the settings. Once you connect it to the computer, you can use the app for creating and modifying custom profiles and you can also map the buttons via a visual interface. It also allows you to make adjustments to trigger sensitivity and dead zones, individual stick sensitivity and vibration intensity.
It also gives you the option of customizing the color of the lighting ring around the thumbstick. The Revolution 5 Pro’s firmware can also be updated and it also gives you the option of enabling a battery saving mode. This will disable the lighting around the stick and the vibration, along with noise reduction to help save some battery life.
The Verdict
If you enjoy customizing your gaming experience, the Nacon Revolution 5 Pro is a good option, but it does come with a high price tag.
