The X series of handsets that Poco releases every year are part of the mid-range space that can offer excellent value for money. Similar to last year, there is a regular and a Pro model available with the Poco X6 5G the cheaper option. It does have fierce competition, so it is best to see what it can provide.
Design and build
The design of the X6 has taken inspiration from the Poco X5 5G that was introduced last year. It still comes with the large camera module that has dual circular lenses, but a glossy plastic finish has been used instead of the matt. This means that the back will pick up smudges and fingerprints. It also feels a bit flimsy and lacks the premium feel. The black and blue models come with the glossy finish, but the phone also has a white model that boasts the marble effect.
The Poco logo is next to the cameras, but instead of vertical, it is now horizontal and is smaller in size. The power button and volume rocker is on the left and the USB-C charging port is on the bottom, with a dual-SIM slot. It does not come with the option of expandable storage and no eSIM support is available. The phone weighs 181g and its dimensions are 161.15 x 74.24 x 7.98mm, which makes it light and slim.
The Poco X6 also comes with a black silicone-style case in its box and it looks good, while offering solid protection. There is also a fingerprint sensor under the display and it also supports face recognition.
Screen and speakers
The Poco X6 boasts a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2712 x 1220 and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. It also comes with a brightness of about 1800 nits, which means it is sharp and colorful in different conditions. Whether you are playing games, or watching videos, the screen is absolutely joyful because it also offers Dolby Vision support. The refresh rate is 120Hz, which makes the phone smooth and responsive.
The instant touch sampling rate is 2160Hz, but it is only activated during gameplay. The X6 comes with stereo speakers and they produce punchy and loud audio.
Specs and performance
A Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 powers the Poco X6, which is a Qualcomm chipset introduced in 2023 and designed primarily for mid-range phones. There are several variants of the X6 available, which include 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, 12GB RAM and 256GB storage and 12GB RAM and 512GB storage.
In terms of performance, the smartphone does quite a decent job. You can easily do multitasking, play games and stream without facing any such lags. The phone boots up quickly as well. Since it is a mid-range phone, it is not designed for heavy-duty gaming, but otherwise it does a good job.
The Verdict
In terms of hardware, Poco has definitely upgraded the X6 over last year’s model, as it comes with a bigger battery, improved speakers, higher IP rating and more capable cameras. Thanks to its Snapdragon processor, it also delivers a smooth performance.
