The Poco sub-brand of Xiaomi has been aimed at delivering strong performance at a very competitive price. The Poco F-series goes after flagships, while the Poco X-series is for the mid-range market. The Poco X6 Pro is undoubtedly a compelling option, given its price tag and features. Even though it looks like Poco X5 Pro that was introduced last year, it delivers faster performance and has a brighter and sharper display.
Design and build
The design language has evolved rather subtly for the Poco X6 Pro. There is a large slab-like camera platform that dominates the rear this time and covers the width of the phone. All three camera lenses are raised, along with the flash and the identically proportioned rings have been arranged in a square configuration. The reflective and smudgy plastic material is not appealing at all and is prone to fingerprints.
The plastic model weighs 186g, but it has a smaller bezel around the display and this gives it a premium touch. The design improvements are quiet and subtle, as evident in a side-mounted fingerprint sensor rather than an under-display one. The implementation of an IR blaster makes Xiaomi phones different from the others in the market and the same applies to the Poco X6 Pro as well.
Screen and speakers
The Poco X6 Pro comes with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The resolution has gotten a bump to 2712 x 1220. It definitely delivers a crisp and nice picture and the brightness has also gotten a boost this time around. The color accuracy is also quite impressive and the display is also highly responsive due to the 2,160Hz sampling rate. Dual speakers have been used and they are clear and crisp for such an affordable device.
Specs and performance
The Poco phones have been positioned as budget gaming specialists and the same remains true for Poco X6 Pro. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8300-Ultra chip and comes with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The chip is undoubtedly a good performer and storage options include 256GB and 512GB. In terms of performance, the phone gives no complaints and works quite smoothly. In fact, it works just as good as some flagship devices like the Google Pixel 8, which costs a lot more.
Cameras
Xiaomi has mixed things up with Poco X6 Pro’s camera system. It comes with a 1/2inch 64Mp main sensor, which is a downgrade from its predecessor. But, OIS (optical image stabilization) has been added and the processor is enhanced with AI capabilities that can help in taking superior pictures. It has certainly paid off. The other camera options include an 8Mp ultrawide and a 2Mp macro camera. Moreover, there is also a 16Mp selfie camera and it is certainly not shabby for a cheap phone.
The Verdict
The Poco X6 Pro comes with several small, but meaningful tweaks in the form of an improved display, tighter design and a main camera that can take great pictures in low lighting, all at an affordable price.
