With the new era of AI-powered tech just beginning, Samsung is hoping to jump onto the bandwagon early with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. While it does add some AI use cases that seem useful, the device excels as a great smartphone, which it should, given its price tag. The phone is undoubtedly premium and you will feel it right away when you hold it even for a couple of seconds.
Design and features
At first glance, the Galaxy S24 Ultra looks like every other Galaxy device to have been introduced in the last couple of years. It is a rectangular glass brick that boasts rounded edges and the minimal bezels allow the display to blend into the chassis seamlessly. But, there are some striking upgrades. The phone is made with titanium and this makes it heavy at 8.22 ounces.
It also has a beautiful 6.8-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440p and a 120Hz refresh rate. You can adjust the refresh rate via ‘Standard’ or ‘Adaptive’ setting. Samsung has once more incorporated the in-screen fingerprint sensor and face unlock is also available. There is a lock button and volume rocker on the right side, which are not mushy at all.
The USB-C port for charging can be found on the bottom, along with the S-Pen. The latter is exclusive to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which makes it the Galaxy Note 24 in every way except for name. The stylus gets better every year, whether you use it for doodling, poking around the device, or writing down notes. It is also useful in some AI features.
AI
AI has become the hottest tech trend these days and Samsung Galaxy S24 comes with lots of AI-features. However, at this point, they feel gimmicky add-ons instead of a major feature. Live translate is probably the most useful feature in everyday life, as the phone can translate text messages and phone calls and even your notes. This is great for travelers. While these features are certainly nice to use, most people will forget them in a few days.
Performance
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is one of the first devices on the market that uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which has an 8-core CPU and a GPU that boasts 1,536 shading units. This makes it incredibly powerful, especially as Samsung has added 12GB of RAM and three storage options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB.
The 6.8-inch display comes in handy for multitasking and the huge amount of RAM that Samsung has added allows you to switch between apps without any issues. Another important thing to know about the phone is that it is very good at running some of the most demanding Android games. Game Booster has also been added to the S24 Ultra, which makes it one of the best gaming phones in the market. It allows you to manage performance and comes with plugins that let you monitor your performance information in real time.
The Verdict
At $1,299, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best phone you can purchase, as it is one of the fastest gaming phones and also highly durable due to its Titanium chassis.
