TCL QM8 – Review

If you are looking for a big TV that offers you excellent picture quality without burning a hole in your pocket, then the TCL QM8 should be on top of your list. As long as you are not specifically looking for an OLED and want a TV that is at least 65-inches or bigger, this one fits your requirements. The QM8 is available in several sizes, which include 65-inches, 75-inches, 85-inches and 98-inches.

Design and remote

While the TCL QM8 may not be as sleek as a Samsung TV on the high-end side, this does not mean it does not look good. The central pedestal stand looks much better than having two legs on either side. The stand also comes with two different height choices and this gives you the option to fit a soundbar below the screen if you want.

But, it is important to note that for an LED LCD that has a complex backlight, the TV is still on the heavy side. As far as the remote is concerned, it is long and thin and looks a lot nicer than remotes of budget TVs. The backlit keys also add to the appeal, but there is a lot of button clutter that does make things confusing. It comes with two different menu buttons, seven shortcut keys to various streaming services and a dedicated profile key.

Google TV

The Google TV operating system is undoubtedly good, but until 2023, TCL had gone with Roku TV for its flagship mini-LED models. But, in the QM8, the company has decided to switch to Google for providing more control to users over features. Thanks to Google Assistant, the voice results are great. You can enjoy excellent integration with Google apps, especially YouTube and there is also a greater number of apps available due to Google Play Store. The system responds quickly and you get a lot of suggestions as well.

Features

The primary feature of the TCL QM8 is its mini-LED backlight. As the name indicates, these are smaller than regular LEDs, which means they can be grouped into more local dimming zones. This helps improve picture quality significantly. The screen is able to brighten and dim various areas simultaneously. Moreover, when there are more dimming zones, you can also enjoy precise illumination, thereby increasing contrast and delivering better picture quality.

The TCL QM8 also comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, which means you can get better motion performance. In addition, the TV also supports HDR10 high dynamic range formats and Dolby Vision as well. There are four HDMI inputs available, a USB port, headphone jack, Ethernet support, optical digital audio output as well as RF input.

As far as picture quality is concerned, you will find that the TCL QM8 is a contrast beast. It comes very close to matching OLED perfection and the brightness is also worth noting. It looks incredible, whether you are watching movies, or using it for gaming.
