When it comes to best budget gaming laptops, the TUF series has been on top of the list. The batch introduced in 2023 was the first to come with a 4000-series Nvidia graphics card. Therefore, there were a lot of expectations associated with the Asus TUF Gaming F15, especially in terms of gaming performance, and luckily it manages to deliver on its promises.
Design
The heavy and sturdy metallic body is capable of withstanding the day to day bumps. The hinges are rigid, the display panel does not flex much and the keyboard panel is also quite firm. Suffice it to say, this is one of the hardiest budget laptops available. Due to the robust body, it is heavier than most other laptops in the market and weighs 2.2kg. This means it is not ultra-portable. But, it is certainly a better-looking budget gaming machine.
The TUF logo is embossed on the lid and there are dimples in the corners. A cutaway section allows you to see four indicator lights when it is closed, which are airplane mode, charging, and power on/off and hard-drive access. The subtle accents give it a special touch. It is also very practical, as there is a handy flap on the lid that can be used for opening the screen when it is closed.
It is less sleek from the inside, as the hinges look awkward due to the cutaway section. The keyboard has a thoughtful layout with lots of keys added in a small space without being too crowded. There is also a full number pad and volume controls are given above the main keyboard area. The layout is intuitive and does not take long to get used to.
Connectivity
The Asus TUF Gaming F15 comes with all the ports you would expect to see on a gaming machine. These include an HDMI port, a USB-C port, a headphone jack, two USB-A ports and a Thunderbolt 4 port that can be used for charging the laptop. This is useful if you want to leave home without a power brick.
Performance and gaming
The Asus TUF F15 does not disappoint in terms of performance, partially due to the Frame Generation, which is possible due to the Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) AI tech of Nvidia. When you turn this feature on, the laptop does an outstanding job and there are no lags, whatsoever. The previous-generation i7-12700H CPU and the RTX 4060 do the heavy lifting easily. Essentially, it is a laptop that will play whatever you throw at it and that too at high graphics settings, which makes it future-proof.
But, the capacity of the solid state drive (SSD) is a bit limiting. It comes with 512GB, which is not a lot, given the size of modern games. You are likely to run out of space quickly and this can be very frustrating. If you are willing to spend more, get a configuration that offers you more storage.
The Verdict
Everything about the Asus TUF F15 gaming laptop dazzles. It is a practical and solid laptop that excels as a general workstation and a gaming machine.
