One of the good things about Lenovo is that it offers several configurations to choose from when it comes to its devices and the same applies to the LOQ 15-inch gaming laptop. This particular model boasts a 13th-Gen Intel CPU, a 15-inch 144Hz, 1080p display and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU.
Design and build
While Asus has opted for a military look when it comes to its gaming devices, Lenovo has gone with a slightly sci-fi touch with the LOQ and the rear of the device gives off the Star Trek vibe. The vents come with impulse engine styling. Lenovo has moved the screen hinge position, which leads to easier access to the central port on the spine. There is no use of metal anywhere, as the various shades of grey plastic have been used for the exterior of the LOQ.
Therefore, it is surprising to see that the LOQ actually weighs 2.4kg, which is quite heavy. The gaming machine is lacking in terms of ports, as it comes with just one USB-C port and no USB 4.0, or Thunderbolt. The port is on the left with the audio jack, while the right has one USB 2.0 port and a camera disabling switch. Most of the ports can be found on the back, but it comes with a single HDMI 2.1 port, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (Type-A) and a gigabit LAN port.
Screen and speakers
The screen that LOQ uses has IPS technology and a refresh rate of 144Hz. The brightness is impressive, but the colors are nothing to write home about. The audio experience also proves to be unimpressive because there are two down-firing 2W speakers that have a limited range. The maximum volume is low, so it is best to use headphones, or external speakers if you want better sound.
Specs and performance
The GeForce RTX 4060 is the headline here because the graphics card comes with 8GB of dedicated GDDR6 memory and boasts the latest Nvidia GPU technology that has the Ada lovelace architecture. There is also an Integrated Intel Iris Xe GPU. Depending on the LOQ model you choose, it can come with the RTX 4060, RTX 3050 or the RTX 4050.
As for the Intel Core i5-13500H, it is a twelve-core CPU that has four performance P-Cores and eight efficiency E-Cores. The 16GB of RAM is also a good addition, as the graphics card already has its dedicated memory, but the 512GB of storage is a bit disappointing. You will have to upgrade and this requires spending more.
Battery life
In this department, the LOQ is a disappointment because even though Lenovo claims it can last for 5 hours or above, it is unable to do so. But, it does offer fast charging, which is a bonus.
The Verdict
The GPU and CPU combination is undoubtedly compelling where the Lenovo LOQ is concerned, but there is a lot of competition in the market and the battery capacity also disappoints.
