While the flagship Galaxy S24 series of the brand may get the most attention, it has not stopped Samsung from pumping out affordable smartphones quietly. The Galaxy A25 5G is one of the new models it has introduced for 2024. Previous phones in the series have offered good value for money and Samsung seems to have continued the trend with this one as well.
Design and build
The design of the Galaxy A25 is similar to the other phones in the series. It echoes the styling of Samsung’s flagship device, but with some tweaks. The choice of material is the biggest difference, as the phone has a plastic frame and back. The front is glass, but the type has not been specified. It has the distinctive Samsung look, especially when you see the trio of rear cameras. The Galaxy A25 stands out due to the pattern on the back.
It has a shiny grid with tiny squares and it is more prominent in the blue version, rather than the yellow or the blue black versions available. While the device is quite sturdy, it is best to use it with a case. This can also help improve the grip because the phone is a bit slippery. The frame is raised slightly where the power and volume buttons are located. The former also boasts a fingerprint scanner and it works quite well.
In terms of size and weight, it is a heavy and big phone, as it has the same metrics as the iPhone 15 Plus. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack included in the Galaxy A25, which is quite appealing.
Screen and speakers
The Galaxy A25 comes with a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is colorful, punchy, bright and detailed, which means it is one of the best screens you will come across on a budget device. There is also an Eye Comfort Shield mode that can reduce blue light. You can get a smooth overall experience due to the high refresh rate and it is possible to reduce it to 60Hz for preserving battery life.
The phone also comes with stereo speakers, which sound quite decent and also have a good amount of volume available. The Galaxy A25 also supports Dolby Atmos, but you have to switch it on via settings.
Specs and performance
Samsung has opted to use its own Exynos 1280, which is a 2022 chipset for mid-range phones. Even though it is relatively old, it comes with an octa-core processor built on a 5nm process. To put it simply, this means the phone is powerful enough to run everyday tasks. But, it cannot be used for advanced gaming or intense video editing.
It comes with a reasonable 6GB of RAM and storage of 128GB, but there is a microSD card slot that you can use to expand storage. As for other specs, you get the usual Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and GPS.
The Verdict
At $299, the Galaxy A25 ticks all the right boxes for a budget smartphone and delivers a solid package.
