If you are a budget-conscious buyer, then you will be pleased to know that Xiaomi is back with another Redmi handset to tempt you. There are five phones part of the Redmi Note 13 series, which includes the Note 13 Pro. Quite similar to the Note 12 Pro, the latest device does come with upgrades over its predecessor.
Design and build
In terms of design, Xiaomi has kept things more or less the same. This is not necessarily bad because Redmi phones look good and the same applies to the Note 13 Pro. While it has the same styling as its predecessor, there are various upgrades and tweaks. First off, the front comes with Gorilla Glass Victus and the back is also glass. Several toughness measures have been implemented, which include strengthened frame corners and a shock-absorbent layer.
It has a slim body at 7.98mm and weighs 187g, which balances quite nicely. The sides are flat and the bezels are small, so it is easy to hold the phone. The camera module on the back has been arranged into a pleasing square. The two main lenses are quite big. The rear glass has a matt finish, which means no worries about fingerprints, but it is slippery.
Screen and speakers
The screen is 6.67-inch in size and the AMOLED panel offers a refresh rate of 120Hz. Xiaomi has given the resolution of the Redmi Note 13 a boost to 1220 x 2712. The screen is colorful and crisp. By default, the refresh rate operates on a dynamic mode, which means it will switch between 60Hz and 120Hz, depending on what you are doing. The fingerprint scanner is under the screen. As for the stereo speakers, they come with Dolby Atmos support and they sound fine for general phone usage. A 3.5mm jack has also been included, which is a rarity these days.
Specs and performance
In terms of processor, Xiaomi has brought a change in the Note 13 Pro, as it has opted for Qualcomm rather than MediaTek and it has gone with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. It comes with either 8 or 12GB of RAM, depending on the storage capacity you select. There are 256GB and 512GB options to choose from. The performance of the Snapdragon is not massively different from the predecessor, but it does not lack in any way. The phone remains zippy and smooth, whether you use it for gaming, or for switching between apps.
Other than just core specs and performance, the Redmi Not 13 Pro also comes with features, such as Dual SIM and 5G support. You will also find dual-band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2 and even an IR blaster that can be used for controlling devices, such as your TV.
Camera
In the photography department, Redmi has upgraded the main camera from 50 to 200Mp and the sensor also comes with optical image stabilization. Otherwise, things remain the same, as there is an 8Mp ultrawide camera and a 2Mp macro lens for completing the trio of rear shooters. The front comes with a 16Mp selfie camera that can give you some nice shots.
The Verdict
Similar to its predecessor, the Redmi Note 13 Pro checks a lot of boxes and those who are looking for a premium device at a mid-range price would certainly find it a good option.
