The Redmi sub-brand of Xiaomi is renowned for its powerful yet affordable phones and the same applies to the Redmi Note 13 series. It has a total of five phones, one of which is the Redmi Note 13 Pro+, which is top-of-the-line and meant to rival the iPhone 15 Pro Max, despite its affordable price tag. Its specs alone indicate that it offers incredible value for money.
Design and build
The design of the Note 13 Pro+ feels very premium and shows that Xiaomi has not cut any corners. The glass back gives a luxurious feel and adds weight to the device, which is around 204.5g. The two-tone design on the rear is also appealing, while a glossy coating around the flash and camera makes it shimmer in the light. Otherwise, there is a matt finish that keeps the fingerprint smudges to a minimum.
You can use the phone case-free, but a rubber one is included in the box for those who want to use it. It should be noted that the Note 13 Pro+ is the only phone in the Redmi Note 13 series that does not come with a flat screen. Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus has been used on the screen for durability. A USB-C port is given for charging, but there is no 3.5mm headphone jack that is included in other phones in the series.
The vibration motor of the Note 13 Pro+ is worth mentioning because it provides excellent haptic feedback when you are gaming, navigating between apps, or typing.
Screen and speakers
The Note 13 Pro+ boasts a wonderful 6.7-inch AMOLED display panel that looks as well as performs like that of a flagship device. While the resolution is 2712 x 1220 and not 1440p, the display still manages to give excellent detail and clarity. The colors are vibrant and punchy and the screen is downright excellent for gaming and content consumption. Another premium touch is the 120Hz refresh rate, which makes transitions and scrolling responsive and silky.
There is no LTPO tech, but the default mode switches between refresh rates of 60Hz and 120Hz, or they can also be manually adjusted. The curved display does not have a negative impact on your viewing experience. The front of the Note 13 Pro+ is basically all screen, thanks to the razor-thin bezels and the small hole-punch selfie camera.
As opposed to a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, one is built within the screen. The audio is above average, thanks to a downward-firing grille and a stereo setup for the earpiece.
Specs and performance
The Dimensity 7200 Ultra powers the Note 13 Pro+, which was released in September 2023. While it is not the most powerful chip out there, it comes with plenty of capabilities. Xiaomi has combined this with 12GB of RAM to deliver strong performance, better than what you would expect. It powers through all regular tasks, such as messaging, browsing and photography. Even in terms of gaming, it works smoothly and only gets slightly warm.
As for storage, you are given 512GB, but no microSD card slot. 5G support is available and connectivity also includes Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6 and NFC for mobile payments.
Cameras
There are four camera lenses in the Note 13 Pro+, which include a decent 200Mp sensor and a solid 16Mp front camera for selfies. The former is the most impressive, as it gives you some excellent photos. The 8Mp ultrawide is a bit disappointing because there is a sharp decline in image quality. A 2Mp macro is the third lens on the rear and it is nearly useless. No telephoto camera is included.
The Verdict
The Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is one of the best phones in its price range, boasting great hardware and offers excellent battery life, a gorgeous display and superb performance.
