Wave is the first electric toothbrush that Laifen has introduced and it comes in a beautiful packaging of eco-friendly and recycled materials. Laifen has been vocal about its use of innovative brushing technology and design.
Design and build
Not only does the Laifen Wave electric toothbrush vibrate at 66,000 vibrations per minute, it also oscillates. While the vibrations are a lot more than the number needed for it to be termed sonically effective, you will discover that its motion is quite different from rival brushes. The oscillation is quite visible because of its wide, 60 degree range and it is adjustable as per your liking.
Boasting a glossy and chunky handle, the Wave is a compact toothbrush and it is shorter and wider than competing models. 12cm long, the handle does not taper. The dimensions might feel a bit odd in your hands, but it does get slippery when it is wet. However, the compact size means that you can take it with you when you travel.
The box contains the toothbrush handle, three toothbrush heads with various bristle formations and a magnetic charging cable. You will need a type C power adapter because no plug is included. The three brush heads are named ‘super-clean’, ‘gum care’ and ‘ultra-whitening’. But, they are not of the highest quality and their shiny finish will begin to show scratches.
It takes just 2.5 hours for the Wave to charge and its battery life is around 30 days, which is quite impressive. There is a single button and two sets of indicator lights on the brush handle. The top indicator light is to identify the brushing mode and the other is a battery indicator light.
Performance, Features and App
The app has to be used with the Wave; it is non-negotiable. It is required for pretty much everything except for switching on flight mode and turning the brush on and off. It can be downloaded for free and is available for both iOS and Android. You have to set up an account and pair it with the brush. The app has a simple design and does not have any secondary features.
When you first switch on the brush, it comes with a two-minute brushing time recommended by dentists. You can change the timer in the app. The settings also allow you to choose from one of the four settings available, make adjustments to the oscillation speed, range and vibration strength. You can create a total of four customized brushing modes.
As for performance, the Wave leaves you teeth feeling smooth and clean. The brushing performance seems to be quite good. It is best to avoid the higher vibration settings because the brush will just bounce off your teeth and that is of no use.
The Verdict
For its first electric toothbrush, Laifen has done a pretty good job, as the Wave seems to have a lot going for it. The 30-day battery life, along with the adjustable settings are definitely an advantage because they allow you to tailor the performance of the brush as per your liking.
