Philips has come up with the 27B1U7903 in an effort to provide everything a home user could possibly want in a compact monitor. The monitor is not priced cheaply. Even though, it does not have any gaming credentials. But, taking the features into account, it does not feel overpriced. If you are serious about becoming a content creator? This monitor offers all the attractive features that can be considered value for money.
Design
Physically, there is nothing remarkable about the 27B1U7903, which weighs about 9.4kg. This is considered average for a 27-inch monitor. Thanks to its weight and size, you will not have any difficulty in adjusting its height with one hand. It is quite easy to set the monitor in your desired position, as it offers you 20 degrees of tilt, 45 degrees of swivel and 90 degrees of pivot.
You can enjoy an almost edgeless viewing experience, as it has just 8mm of bezel on the sides and top and 10mm at the bottom. The stand is quite compact and offers excellent stability, even though it also has a small footprint. The stand’s design is also worth mentioning because it is a thick, solid metal rectangle that has a hollowed-out base and center, instead of being just another ugly and bulky plastic affair
One of the biggest highlights of the 27B1U7903 is connectivity and Philips has claimed that it is one of the first Thunderbolt 4 monitors in the world that come with USB4 compliance. The range of connectors are undoubtedly quite impressive. As, there is one DisplayPort 1.4 video input and two HDMI 2.0 inputs. There are also two Thunderbolt 4/ USB-C 4 ports, four USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports. To round things off, you will also find a 3.5mm audio jack and a Gigabit RJ45 LAN port.
As the power supply is built-in, you do not have to worry about an unsightly brick. A light sensor is also included, which adjusts the screen brightness according to the ambient light.
Image quality
If you are looking for a bright monitor, you cannot go wrong with the 27B1U7903 because it is one of the brightest ones in the market. You will find that the brightness levels are also quite uniformed and there is absolutely no deviation. For the price tag, it is natural to expect a comprehensive color palette and this is precisely what you get. A number of color profiles have been added for professional use. This include DCI-P3, Rec.709, AdobeRGB, NTSC, DICOM, sRGB and Rec.2020.
Overall, the Philips 27B1U7903 is able to deliver the same performance as you would expect from an OLED monitor. But, the brightness levels are massively higher. But, you should bear in mind that it is not a gaming display, as it only has a refresh rate of 60Hz and does not have support for variable sync when it is connected to either an AMD, or Nvidia GPU.
The Verdict
While the navigation of the Philips 27B1U7903 does leave something to be desired, there is no doubt that it is a capable monitor that can deliver the same HDR performance as OLED monitors, but without their weak brightness.
