Even though it is described as a docking station, the Ugreen Revodok Max 208 is better described as a Thunderbolt 4 hub, or even a Thunderbolt mini dock with added Ethernet. It does function quite well as a flexible dock. It also boasts the ability of hooking your laptop to a wired network without requiring an adapter. Since all the other ports are all Thunderbolt or USB, you will require an adapter when you connect an external display. If a straight USB-C connection is not supported by the monitor.
Specs and features
There are a total of 8 ports that you will find on the Ugreen Revodok Max 208. These are not enough for it to be called a full-blown docking station. But, still remain offer a great deal of flexibility. They are certainly more than enough for a Thunderbolt 4 hub. The eight ports include Gigabit Ethernet, three USB-A ports, three downstream Thunderbolt 4 ports, one Upstream Thunderbolt 4 port and 140W power supply. Many users may find them enough because the three downstream Thunderbolt 4 ports are powerful, fast and flexible.
A Thunderbolt 4 port delivers power of 15W, ensures fast data-transfer and can be used for directly connecting to USB-C monitors, adapters and storage devices for almost everything. In fact, it can also be used to daisy-chain Thunderbolt 4 devices. Two of the Thunderbolt 4 ports can be used for attaching external displays. You have the option of connecting a single 8K display at 30Hz, or going with two 4K ones at 60Hz. The former is for both Windows and Mac, but the latter is only for Windows.
There are three fast USB-A ports (10Gbps) at the front of the dock for memory sticks. The older device connections and a keyboard or a mouse in case you do not have wireless input devices. They do not have any charging ability, so storage devices would need to have their own power supply. The Gigabit Ethernet port is the special feature of this dock.
It is not something you will come across on any Thunderbolt hub, but it is common on docking stations. If your priority is the fastest network speeds and a more stable connection, then wired networks are a better choice than Wi-Fi.
Design
The Ugreen Revodok Max 208 is quite compact and only slightly larger than a Thunderbolt hub. As it is made of aluminum and has a pleated area, it is likely to remain cool. The Thunderbolt ports can be found on the back of the port, as is the Ethernet port. The power button and the three USB-A ports can be found on the front.
The power button of the dock is very appealing because you do not have to pull out the Thunderbolt button when you wish to stop powering the laptop connected to it.
Price
The Ugreen Revodok Max 208 is priced at $279.99, which means it is definitely not cheap as compared to a Thunderbolt 4 hub that usually starts at $150, but does not have an Ethernet port.
The Verdict
Even though the Ugreen Revodok Max 208 looks underpowered at first sight for a full docking station, it can get the job done if you are looking for direct connections.
