The flagship range of smartphones by Xiaomi for 2024 comprise of the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Ultra. The former may not grab headlines as the latter, but it proves to be a brilliant device in almost every respect.
Design and build
The design of Xiaomi 14 is nothing less than stunning, even if the company has not made a lot of changes to the look and feel when compared to Xiaomi 13. While it is not exactly a compact phone, it is definitely a pocket-friendly flagship phone launched this year. The design looks utterly premium, as there is a luxury texturing that surrounds the camera module, while the bezel around the screen is tiny. The frame has a shiny chrome effect and the rear is downright gorgeous.
While the glossy finish does attract fingerprints and smudges, the 3D curved glass back looks great. A grey silicon case is included in the box. On the front, the Xiaomi 14 boasts the Gorilla Glass Victus and there is also a screen protector applied. It is also one of the easy to handle and most compact flagship devices that you will find today. It weighs 193g and is about 8.2mm thick.
Screen and speakers
The display uses AMOLED technology and measures 6.36-inch, which makes it similar to its predecessor, but there are some upgrades that make for some improvement. The resolution is slightly higher at 2670 x 1200, which means it is Full HD+, but the most important addition is that of the LTPO tech panel. This means that you can scale the refresh rate from 120Hz down to 1Hz. The brightness has also gotten a boost and the difference is quite noticeable.
Other features include a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. There is an optical fingerprint scanner under the display, which works with a great deal of accuracy. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, which is not very surprising for a 2024 flagship phone. As for the stereo speakers, they are quite decent and provide plenty of volume. The mid-range is high end crisp and rich.
Specs and performance
In terms of performance, the Xiaomi 14 proves to be a rocket. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and has been paired with 12GB of RAM. As for storage, you can choose between 256GB or 512GB versions. RAM, processor and storage have all improved over the predecessor, but for the same price, which makes it quite the upgrade.
The phone functions at lightning speed, whether it is loading apps, or navigation. Everything happens in a flash. Xiaomi 14 is also capable of handling gaming quite well, as you can play even the most demanding games without any noticeable lag or dropping frames. The phone does get a bit warm eventually, but enough that you have to worry.
As far as core specs are concerned, you cannot really ask for more, as it comes with Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7. You can also find NFC and GPS, along with an IR blaster, 5G and dual-SIM support.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a top-notch flagship device in 2024, Xiaomi 14 is definitely worth considering because it offers you excellent value for money.
