Cheap Android tablets have become quite common these days, so it is refreshing if a new offering has something extra included. The Acer Iconia Tab P11 boasts a vibrant quantum dot display that distinguishes it from its many competitors in the budget category. It is targeted at home users who want to have a premium entertainment experience.
Design
Aluminum alloy has been used for building the Iconia Tab P11, but it still feels cheap because of the creakiness and flex. It is not a compact tablet, given that it is about 8.1mm thick and weighs 550g. The back of the tablet only has the Acer logo and is available in just metallic grey color. The large 11-inch display dominates the front, but the uniform bezels surrounding it are on the chunky side.
The edges do have some interest, as the right corner of the tablet has a 3.5mm headphone jack. Below it, there is a little tray that allows you to expand storage with microSD support.
Screen and Speakers
The 11-inch display is the standout feature of the Iconia Tab P11, which may not be an OLED display given its price tag, but the IPS LCD does boast vibrant colors. This is primarily due to the use of quantum dot technology, which delivers good colors and decent brightness. The sharp display has a resolution of 2000 x 1200. It boasts a refresh rate of 90Hz, which makes it quite smooth.
There are also four speakers, with either edge having two when you hold the tablet in landscape mode. The speakers offer a reasonable directional stereo effect, but you have to crack up the volume for decent sound.
Performance
Acer has opted to use a MediaTek Hello G99 processor, which is not new and not too fast. However, this is to be expected when you are buying a cheap tablet. Surprisingly, the Iconia Tab P11 actually manages to outperform some of its competitors. This is mostly because it boasts 8GB of RAM, which is double of what you will find in its rivals. Thanks to this, it is capable of multi-tasking and can handle gaming sessions comfortably, as long as they are not 3D. Standard 256GB storage is offered, which is quite generous, and it can also be expanded, as mentioned above.
Camera
Given that the tablet is on the cheap side, you cannot expect much from the camera. The back has one 13MP sensor for general pictures, but does not have image stabilization. The front has a 5MP camera that can be used for taking basic selfies and video calls, as long as you are in a well-lit location. If photography is your priority, you would have to spend more on a tablet because most of them give the same results in this price tag.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a cheap tablet that comes with competitive specifications, then the Acer Iconia Tab P11 is a good fit. It may not have an OLED display, but it manages to deliver punchy colors.
