As compared to a lineup of keyboards, the Keychron Q6 Pro stands out because of its conventional layout. It is a full-size prebuilt-enthusiast grade option that offers a convenient wireless mechanical keyboard laden with features.
Design
The Keychron Q6 Pro delivers fantastic build quality, thanks to its machined aluminum case, which means there is no flex. However, the device is undoubtedly heavy, given that it weighs 2.16kg. The keyboard is not just hefty, but also good-looking. You can get it in a light grey and white configuration with red accent keycaps, or go for the black and darker grey.
The layout is conventional and it boasts the nav cluster and number pad, as expected. Above the backspace key, you will also find a volume knob and function keys are on the right for greater convenience. The keycaps are certainly worth noticing, as they use doubleshot PBT plastic. Not only are they durable, but also have crisp lettering that is unlikely to fade.
The underside of the Q6 Pro does not come with any feet, but a range of rubber spheres can be found on the bottom to raise up the keyboard. The back has a USB-C port for wired operation and charging and there are also two toggle switches. One is for toggling between Bluetooth mode and using a cable, while the other is for choosing between Windows and Mac operations.
Performance
The Keychron Q6 Pro comes with the company’s Banana switches. They are a 57g soft tactile switch and have a crispy tactile bump. They feel excellent when you are engaging in day-to-day productivity tasks and they feel excellent. They provide a lot more feedback than you would expect. Due to their higher weight, they might not be the best switches for gaming, but they get the job done.
The acoustics of the Q6 Pro are fantastic, as there is no ping or rattle. This is not surprising, given that the keyboard is packed with case foam and also has lubricated stabilizers and switches. A gasket mounted keyboard is also provided, which helps improve the typing experience. If you do not like the switches, Keychron gives you the option of Blue, Red and Brown switches. You can swap the switches easily, as the process is not a hassle.
There is a Bluetooth 5.1 connection for wireless connectivity, or you can use the USB-C cable if you prefer. There is a 4000mAh battery that can offer 300 hours of runtime with RBG off and 100 hours on the lowest RGB setting.
Software and Lighting
You can get solid compatibility on the Q6 Pro in terms of software, as it is compatible with both VIA and QMK. The former is easy to use and lightweight for remapping keys, programming macros and configuring the lighting effects of the keyboard.
The Verdict
The Keychron Q6 Pro is a fantastic wireless mechanical keyboard. It has a comfortable and responsive typing experience due to its Banana switches and is quite well-built. The battery life is also very impressive.
