It will be interesting to see how the Motorola Moto G04 performs considering its budget constraints. Because over the years, Motorola has been making great budget phones, but its latest release is notable for its low price.
Design and Build
The Moto G04 comes off as a well-made and sturdy device, as it has a simple and smart aesthetic with clean lines and does not feel, or look like a low-budget phone. The back panel is a thin plastic, but it looks good due to the frosted matt finish. There is a raised camera module that houses a large flash and the main lens. There are volume and power controls on the sides, which are quite soft, but click when you press them.
The power button also boasts the fingerprint sensor and it is quite fast and reliable. The Motorola Moto G04 also comes with face recognition through the front-facing camera. The screen to body ratio is impressive due to the thin bezels. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top edge, while the bottom has one speaker, microphone and USB-C charging port. The phone weighs 179g and measures 163.49 x 74.53 x 7.99mm. You can choose between three colors, which are Satin Blue, Sea Green and Concord Black.
Screen and Speakers
The LCD panel of the Moto G04 measures 6.6-inch and is quite decent. It does not offer the complete 1080p experience, as it has a resolution of 1612 x 720, but this is understandable due to the price. The colors are acceptable and the details are sharp and the refresh rate of 90Hz is quite a surprise. Hence, you can scroll smoothly and without any lags.
There is one speaker on the bottom for handling the sound on the Moto G04. The audio is pretty thin, but it is good enough for YouTube videos and calls. According to Motorola, Dolby Atmos support is provided. You can use the headphone jack for plugging in headphones, or also use the Bluetooth 3.0 capabilities to connect it wirelessly.
Specs and Performance
The Moto G04 is well-equipped when it comes to performance. It is powered by a UniSoc T606 octa-core processor that comes with 6x A55 1.6GHz and 2x A75 1.6GHz cores. The phone has an ARM Mali-G57 MP1 GPU. Obviously it is not the fastest phone, but it does manage to deliver a decent performance. It takes a bit of time to take photos and this is probably due to the 4GB of RAM it comes with. In some regions, the 8GB RAM model is available.
It is possible to play games on the phone and you can also use the onboard storage as virtual RAM, which can be quite helpful. The phone supports a microSD card and this gives you the ability to expand your storage.
The Verdict
Motorola has kept things simple on the camera front, with one 16Mp camera on the back and 5Mp on the front. The images are quite good and it has decent light and considering the other features, it is a good budget phone.
