Last year when the Razer Blade 16 was introduced, it had made waves because it crammed a 16-inch screen into a 15-inch body, along with some powerful gaming specs. It also boasted a dual resolution Mini LED display capable of switching between Full HD and QHD+ resolutions. The 2024 update is a tad more conservative, with the screen marking the biggest change.
Design
In terms of design, there have not been any such changes. The Razer Blade 16 is a 16-inch laptop, yet manages to be quite compact. But, it cannot be termed as light or slim. It measures 355mm x 244mm ad is still 22mm thick and weighs about 2.45kg. This means that it is best suited to a desk rather than being lugged around.
The design is understated, as it is made of a matte black anodized aluminum shell, but the finish is a bit greasy. The lid has a bright green illuminated Razer logo and it boasts an RGB backlit keyboard, which are the only signs of gamer bling you will find. You can decide if you want to go low key with the animated effects and colors or not.
Screen
The Razer Blade 16 comes with an OLED screen, which is billed as the laptop’s biggest selling point. It truly is exceptional, as the 16-inch screen comes with a 2560 x 1600 resolution that gives amazing clarity with superb contrast. Everything looks fantastic, which include bright highlights, detailed and rich textures and lighting effects. The 240Hz refresh rate only adds to it.
The laptop also does well on the audio front. The THX Spatial Audio actually works quite well, as the dual tweeters and dual subwoofers turn out to be quite convincing. They deliver immersive and clear sound, both in movies and games and they are also good for music. The sound is more rounded and natural as compared to other gaming laptops.
Performance
The Razer Blade 16 (2024) boasts a monstrosity in the form of the 14th-gen Core i9 CPU that boasts eight performance cores and sixteen efficient cores. It comes with 32GB of RAM and RTX 4090, which means it delivers stupendous level of speed. The laptop proves to be blazingly fast and would be overkill for regular productivity work and can handle 3D content creation and sophisticated 4K video editing rather comfortably. It manages to deliver smooth performance in every game, including the most demanding ones and the 240Hz refresh rate also comes in handy.
Software
Razer is one of the few manufacturers that does not install any bloatware in its devices. There are no unnecessary trials of anti-virus tools and VPNs or utilities. Instead, Synapse is the main system application that comes with all the management and performance monitoring tools you could want. It also provides two approaches to customize RGB lighting that allow you to choose simple and sophisticated effects, as per your preference. Synapse is full of features, slick and created for gamers, which makes it a great addition.
The Verdict
The Razer Blade 16 manages to deliver the performance you would expect from a monster gaming laptop, but without the associated weight and bulk. It has a fantastic OLED screen and great sound that make it a good purchase.
