It is very rare for something special to come around in the crowded phone market and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is one such device. The company has finally decided to go beyond its home market to launch its Ultra flagship smartphone and the device is capable of delivering the absolute best phone experience.
Design and Build
Xiaomi has crafted the 14 Ultra to resemble traditional cameras and this is evident from the textured cover and the circular camera module. The phone is a big one and expected with the Ultra moniker. The camera module is massive and adds weight to the phone. It weighs 219.8g and measures 161.4 x 75.3 x 9.2mm, which makes it smaller and lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
It is available in two colors; white and black and both have a vegan leather rear cover. The box includes a hard plastic case . The phone is durable and well-made and is almost water and dust resistant. Xiaomi has used its own Shield Glass for the front while making the frame from high-strength aluminum.
Screen and Speakers
According to Xiaomi, the 14 Ultra has an ‘all around liquid display’. The glass is curved on all sides, but the display underneath is flat, which means you can enjoy the best of both worlds. It measures 6.73-inch and the AMOLED panel comes with support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Since it uses LTPO technology, the 120Hz refresh rate can be adjusted to deliver smooth performance.
The embedded fingerprint sensor is a big higher and this makes it more comfortable and natural. It does not have a headphone jack, but is packed with high-end audio codecs that include AptX Adaptive, AAC, LHDC 5.0 and LDAC. The stereo speakers are of solid quality and offer a detailed and spacious soundscape.
Specs and Performance
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra comes with 16GB of RAM and this means quick performance. The phone can handle anything and everything you throw at it, whether it is gaming, streaming video, photo editing and opening apps. The phone comes with 5G support, dual nano-SIM support, Wi-Fi 7, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4 with dual connections and IR blaster.
Cameras
Considering the size of the camera bump, it is evident that photography is the main highlight of the 14 Ultra. There are four rear cameras that have been co-developed with Leica. All four of them are 50Mp, with the main camera boasting a massive 1-inch sensor and optical image stabilization (OIS). It also has an ultrawide, a periscope camera with 5x optical zoom and a floating telescope at 3.2x. Only the ultrawide is without OIS.
The camera app is also well-designed, with various settings and modes available. It is intuitive and neat and you can save custom presets, depending on your preferences.
The Verdict
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra proves to be a spectacular smartphone in almost every way. It has excellent build quality and a stunning design, along with the best screen.
