It is true that Philips might be a little slower than its competitors when it comes to launching TVs. But this does not mean that they are lacking. The same holds true for the Philips 65OLED+908, which is a slim OLED panel and a contender for one of the brightest OLED TVs that exist today.
Design
As compared to the OLED+907, the OLED+908 is actually a refinement and not a complete change. It is an elegant TV that boasts a minimal edge design. An integrated sound system from Bowers & Wilkins wrapped in an acoustically treated Kvadrat cloth and a sleek casing. The central stand has a gap in the middle, which makes it different, but it has a minimal footprint. Since it is on a swivel, the angle of the screen can also be adjusted as per your preference.
The back has a three-sided Ambilight row of LEDs, while an integrated subwoofer can be found in the middle and there are also side and down-firing connections. The OLED+908 is available in three sizes, which are 55-inch, 65-inch and 75-inch.
Operating System
The interface has been divided into Library, Apps, TV, Movies, For You and Philips. The last one is a guidance hub that explains the different features of the TV. For You is designed to give recommendations and is used for creating different profiles. You will find no lags when using Google TV because it is fluid and swift. The settings have also been redesigned to take less space on the screen and to make them easier to navigate.
Philips has also redesigned the remote, as the backlit buttons are now activated via motion and it is heftier. It only has one settings button to make things simpler. It is also a rechargeable remote, which makes it environmentally friendly.
Features
Ambilight technology is exclusively available in Philips TVs and the OLED+908 has it in its three-sided form. It has the next-gen version of the technology that offers a more defined, detailed and in-sync performance. The TV has been designed to be a gaming powerhouse, as it boasts ALLM, AMD FreeSync, VRR, 4K/120Hz and Dolby Vision Game mode.
Philips uses its P5 AI processor to power the picture that processes images with deep learning AI algorithms for delivering smooth motion, rich contrast and lifelike detail. The TV also has one of the brightest HDR OLED screens because it uses LG Display’s 2nd-gen MLA META screen.
As far as AV support is concerned, it includes Dolby Vision HDR formats, HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ Adaptive and Filmmaker and IMAX Enhanced mode. The 80W Bowers & Wilkins sound system offers support for DTS:X and Dolby Atmos. It can also connect to wireless speakers for creating a multi-room system. The Philips 65OLED+908 comes with four HDMI inputs, with one shared with the eARC input for sound systems and two supporting 4K/120Hz.
There are also three USB inputs, digital audio output, Ethernet, headphone output, CI+ and satellite connectors.
The Verdict
The Philips OLED+908 has a competitive feature set, offers good picture performance and has an excellent sound system for a TV, making it a majestic flagship OLED TV.
