The Roccat Kone Pure Ultra has been designed to offer the fundamentals of a great gaming mouse at a reasonable price. It falls in the affordable category and it manages to do well against the competition.
Design
First things first, you will find that the design of the Roccat Kone Pure Ultra makes it a very comfortable device because it has a contoured shape. Right-handed users, in particular, will find it an excellent choice. Either side of the mouse has small cutouts for guiding hand placement. The one of the left also functions as a thumb rest, which is great.
Since it is made of hard plastic, it means the Roccat Kone Pure Ultra is reasonably sturdy. It is also very light, given that it weighs only 66g and remains ergonomic in terms of shape. It also has sensible button placement. The left-hand side has two buttons for navigation purposes. There is also a DPI selector on top. The scroll wheel that you will find on the mouse is also very comfortable.
It boasts a fixed USB-A ended cable and it is non-braided, but Roccat has kept the length quite reasonable at 1.8 meters. There are two large PTFE glide pads on the underside, which ensure smooth movement on a desk.
Performance
A 16,000 DPI sensor is used in the Kone Pure Ultra and this means it has an excellent amount of sensitivity, especially when you consider the price. Therefore, you will find the mouse to be highly responsive, especially when you combine the lower weight and good sensitivity. You can use the mouse easily for extended gaming sessions due to its sculpted chassis and the indentations on both sides. The size is also ideal for most hands and it works well, whether you opt for a claw grip, or a palm grip.
The button arrangement on the Kone Pure Ultra has been designed to be minimalistic. The mouse buttons are tactile and snappy. Since it comes with a USB-A cable, it means the mouse is compatible with a number of devices. There are no latency issues because it is a wired connection.
Software and Lighting
Roccat has taken a more conservative approach when it comes to its devices and it is no different for the Kone Pure Ultra. It has opted for one RGB lighting zone, which is on the back where you will see the Roccat logo. You can find a range of colors and it gives a nice touch to a mouse, which otherwise has a very simple aesthetic.
The Swarm software is used for programming the lighting and the inputs. It is responsive and easy to use, but it is not as polished as its competitors. Nonetheless, it still offers a solid number of options when it comes to customization. You can choose from presets, or customize the lighting yourself.
The Verdict
The Roccat Kone Pure Ultra proves to be a great wired gaming mouse with a lightweight and comfortable chassis. It comes with a reasonable software and powerful sensor. Best of all is that it is available at a very affordable price.
