On Monday, Apple Inc. held its developer conference. It focused on integrating artificial-intelligence (AI) technology in the company’s software, including ChatGPT.
Another point of focus was to boost the sales of its iPhones. The iPhone maker has had to deal with significant competition from its rivals and choppy consumer spending.
The AI push
Therefore, it is now looking to invigorate its loyal clientele of over 1 billion customers with AI. The aim is to turn around a decline in sales of its biggest-selling product.
To use the software, consumers have to have an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max. This could encourage users to upgrade their existing devices, thereby boosting sales.
According to some analysts, this could see the biggest upgrade cycle in September since 2020, when the company launched the iPhone 12.
At that time, it had been 5G connectivity that had resulted in upgrades. Analysts said that the integration of AI was the most compelling feature they had seen since then.
The tech giant revealed its own take on generative AI, calling it Apple Intelligence. Text messages, images and other content can be conjured with the AI.
Apple Intelligence
The company demonstrated how its AI was capable of generating a cartoon for texting friends, custom emojis or edits for penning professional emails.
If users require the assistance of ChatGPT, the company’s digital assistant Siri can help with that. There were analysts that were skeptical about the release.
They said that consumers would not rush to Apple stores just because they want to get more AI on their devices.
According to these analysts, the decline in the company’s revenue could be staunched with the new intelligent Apple devices that have an improved Siri.
However, they do not believe it is enough to help the company get new followers. As far as AI is concerned, investors want Apple to come up with a more ambitious and comprehensive strategy.
Upgrade
Not all iPhones will have the AI features that the company has introduced. According to the company, customers would have to purchase the Apple iPhone 15 Pro, or Pro Max.
The devices were released in September of last year. The chips in the newer smartphones are used for AI.
According to some analysts, this could be a big opportunity for Apple. This is due to the fact that some users have not upgraded their phones in four years.
Therefore, Apple Intelligence could drive at least 15% of the company’s loyal fan base is likely to upgrade to the iPhone 16.
Apple is expected to launch its iPhone 16 in autumn, as per its usual schedule. The integration with ChatGPT could prove to be another motivating factor, as it is very easy to use.
The iPhone maker has made an effort to make it easy for people to use AI. It has seen its revenue decline in the last fiscal year, which has prompted this push.
While AI could be a draw for users to upgrade, they may want other features like a better camera, or a bigger display.
