In recent years, Epomaker has come up with a number of well-priced and attractive mechanical keyboards. One of its latest options is the Epomaker TH80 Pro V2, which succeeds the TH80 that had gained a considerable amount of popularity. It comes with some excellent new features and still manages to remain well-priced.
Design
You can find the TH80 Pro V2 in two color options; black and grey, or off-white with burgundy and beige options. The keyboard boasts a thick and textured ABS plastic casing that looks metallic. Therefore, the keyboard looks more expensive than it actually is. It is a mechanical keyboard with a 75% layout and weighs a solid 700g. The functional layout offers you a useful set of keys, along with some extras like arrow keys, a function row and nav cluster.
You will find SA-style keycaps that have a slight indent and a taller profile. Doubleshot PBT keycaps have been used for the TH80 Pro V2 that are quite durable. The keyboard also comes with a 1.14-inch screen that can be used for displaying date, time, images and small GIFs. While it is not that versatile or easy to control, the screen is undoubtedly a pleasing novelty to have.
The keyboard has a thoughtful and convenient interface and also boasts a USB-C port when you want a wired connection. Otherwise, you can choose to use the Bluetooth connection, or the 2.4GHz receiver. A slot is also provided for storing the receiver.
Performance
Epomaker has used its own Mulan switches to the keyboard that have a travel of 3.8mm and a 47g light actuation force. They are also pre-lubricated and linear, which makes them a snappy option for day-to-day use. The keyboard can be used for typing comfortably due to the switches. Plus, it comes with gasket mounting and this makes the typing very responsive.
The internals of the TH80 Pro V2 also ensure excellent acoustics because the switches are lubricated and there are several layers of foam. You will not hear any ping or rattle, as it sounds great, but it is a bit loud. If you do not want Mulan switches due to the sound, you can explore other linear options from Epomaker. Moreover, it is a hot-swappable keyboard, which gives you freedom to replace whichever switches you want.
The wireless connectivity is downright fantastic. You will have no trouble pairing, whether you use the Bluetooth connection, or the 2.4GHz receiver. As far as battery life is concerned, the TH80 Pro V2 comes with a 3,000mAh battery. The keyboard is capable of lasting for 8 hours if you keep RGB lighting on and 80 hours, if you don’t.
Lighting and Software
You will find a complete assortment of RGB lighting because there are LEDs beside the switches and under the keycaps. The lighting is quite vivid and you can change the speed of color change, along with their overall shade and brightness.
The software is where it might get a bit difficult. While the software itself is flawless, you will experience some issues that require reinstallation.
The Verdict
If you want a mechanical keyboard that delivers a smooth typing experience, the Epomaker TH80 Pro V2 is a good option at a reasonable price.
