The Motorola brand has been churning out cheap, boring yet solid phones, but now it appears that it has managed to rediscover its edge. The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is essentially a successor of last year’s Motorola Edge 40 Neo. It is a sleek device with a mid-range price, yet seems to have all the flavors of a flagship phone.
Design
The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is undoubtedly a good looking device. The frame and body is made entirely of plastic, but the back finish is different, depending on the color you choose. The Marshmallow Blue comes with a vegan leather back, while the Hot Pink one has a vegan suede rear. For a frosted plastic finish, you can choose the Forest Blue model.
The Edge 50 Fusion measures 161.9 x 73.1 due to a large display and it is about 7.9mm thick. As far as weight is concerned, it is below 175g. In line with the Edge series, the device curves off the edges rather subtly.
Screen
You will get a 6.7-inch curved pOLED display on the Edge 50 Fusion that has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 and it boasts a refresh rate of 144Hz. This ensures that the phone is very smooth and you can also reduce the refresh rate to conserve power. Along with the display, Motorola has also given the brightness of the device a boost and it is quite evident. You will find color accuracy to be very strong and there are a number of presets you can choose from.
The screen comes with Gorilla Glass 5 for better protection. There are stereo speakers flanking the screen and there is Dolby Atmos support added, which means it can deliver a great audio experience.
Performance
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip from Qualcomm has been used for powering the 50 Edge Fusion. It also comes with 12GB of RAM, which ensures that the phone can deal with most tasks without any hitches. There is no stuttering during everyday use and even during gaming, you are unlikely to notice any issues. Only the frame rate might dip, but it is not very noticeable, depending on what you are playing.
As far as storage is concerned, the device offers 256GB, which is quite impressive. There is no microSD card support, but the storage is generous enough to suit most people.
Camera
Motorola has opted for the Sony LYTIA LYT-700C as its main camera sensor. It is a classy choice, especially when combined with OIS and all-pixel instant focus technology. Even when the lighting conditions are not optimal, the camera is able to focus on subjects accurately and quickly. In good lighting, it produces pictures with excellent clarity and color.
The Natural and Auto-enhance modes are also helpful in taking good photographs. Other than the main sensor, there is also a 13MP ultra-wide camera and also a 32MP selfie camera. While their performance may not be as good as the main one, they do a decent job.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a cheap phone that works like a flagship, the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion is a great choice because it feels, looks and handles like a flagship device.
