These days, there is no shortage of game controllers, but the GameSir Nova Lite has its place. It does not aim to be a premium controller, but is positioned as an affordable dual wireless device capable of getting the job done.
Design
In terms of looks, you will find the GameSir Nova Lite to be clean and crisp. Available in white, its black-topped joysticks come with orange accents that give it an eye-catching look. The style of the joysticks is similar to Xbox/Nintendo for the most part. However, the Start, Menu, Share, Select and some other buttons are beneath the main controller button.
There is also a small M button at the bottom for macros and for some other commands you might forget. The controller comes with a snap-back hard plastic case. It is very sturdy and you will not have to worry about any creaking or flex when you twist and squeeze it. GameSir is also promoting sustainability with this product, as the controller comes in a brown cardboard box that has very minimal printing. Given that most people are becoming increasingly conscious, it is a smart move.
Performance
Considering the price of the GameSir Nova Lite controller, it is pretty decent. You will not find any programmable buttons, or rear paddles because it is not a premium device. It is a multi-platform controller that boasts a number of connectivity options. However, it does take you some time to get used to it. It is not very intuitive, so you may face some issues in figuring out how the controller works, especially its Bluetooth feature.
Moreover, there is no USB-C cable, which makes it tricky to use it with a USB-C-equipped device, or for charging. GameSir has not added the cable to keep costs down. Plus, almost everyone has a spare cable these days. Once you get the controller up and running, you will have no complaints. Input latency is certainly impressive, which is what matters the most.
The d-pad and face buttons may be a tad mushy and not everyone may find them appealing. But, the triggers come with a good degree of squeeze as well as travel and you will have no trouble in using them. Overall, the Nova Lite feels good in your hands. There is a non-removable and rechargeable 600mAh battery packed in the controller. This can give you a battery life of 10 hours and it takes it about two hours to hit full charge. It might seem too long, but you can use it while it charges, so it is not really a big deal.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a versatile controller to enjoy portable PC play, the GameSir Nova Lite is a smart option. The fact that it has an affordable price tag does not leave any room for complains. Sure, it could have a better battery and the configuration controls are quite annoying. At the end of the day, it is a capable and competitive gaming controller.
