Budget phones are usually on the dull side, which is to be expected, given their price tag. They usually lack interesting features and character, as manufacturers usually offer the bare minimum. Therefore, you will be taken by surprise when you check out the CMF Phone 1 by Nothing.
Design
A look at the CMF Phone 1 shows that Nothing wants to add some color in the boring, low-end phone market. This is evident from its attempt to make the phone’s design fun and engaging. First off, the device comes with a removable back casing. This means that rather than covering up the back of the device, you can actually change it altogether.
There are a total of five screws that hold it together, with four standard ones and the fifth one is similar to a scroll wheel. You have to unscrew the five, remove the SIM tray and then change the back panel. Not only is it fun, but also convenient because it makes it easy to fix issues on the inside because you can open the phone without any such hassle.
Nothing has named the wheel screw the Accessory Point because it can be used to attach a variety of accessories, as it is at the bottom edge of the phone. You can use a lanyard hook, a magnetic backplate, and even a kickstand. Even though the phone is on the large side, it is still slim and nice. It feels and looks premium.
Display
The CMF Phone 1 boasts a 6.67-inch Full HD AMOLED screen that boasts a refresh rate of 120Hz. You can switch it to a 60Hz refresh rate. The display is quite decent, as it has good and bright colors and is vibrant. The bezels are mostly slim, with only the bottom ones a bit thicker. The display also boasts a built-in fingerprint sensor.
Performance
Nothing has opted for a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 processor for the CMF Phone 1 and it comes with 8GB RAM. It has lots of storage, as you can opt for 128GB or 256GB and it also comes with MicroSD support. You can play almost any game you want, but it cannot support ultra or extreme graphic settings. It is quite suitable for playing casual games.
Cameras
The camera system of the CMF Phone 1 will remind you of the old times. Rather than an ultrawide, the phone has a secondary ‘depth’, along with the primary lens. The goal is to detect the depth between objects to focus more on the subject.
The main camera is 50Mp with a dedicated depth sensor. You can also take advantage of basic zoom capabilities. The camera is quite smooth, but it does struggle with edge detection. But, it is difficult to criticize the camera because of the price tag of the device. Nonetheless, you can still take sharp and nicely-colored shots with lots of saturation and contrast.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a unique budget phone experience, you should give Nothing’s CMF Phone 1 a try. It boasts unique accessory attachments and also has a removable case, which you are unlikely to find on any other budget device.
