In the last five years, Logitech has introduced only two low-profile gaming keyboards and the G515 Lightspeed TKL is the second one. The first had been launched back in 2019 and it had become the company’s mainstays in the gaming range. With the G515 Lightspeed TKL, Logitech aims to offer a more affordable wireless low-profile keyboard that has second-gen switches, a smaller layout, extensive software support and dual wireless connectivity.
Design
In terms of looks, you will find that the G515 Lightspeed TKL is similar to its more expensive, older brother and has the same slender 22mm frame. But, the new model has a chassis made completely of plastic, rather than the top metal plate. While the plastic is quite sturdy, it does give the keyboard a generic look. It has a two-tone grey and black chassis that weighs about 880g, which means it is a tad hefty.
The TKL layout has eliminated the number pad from the keyboard, but other elements remain conventional. You will not have a lot of trouble in getting used to the layout. Some useful physical touches have also been incorporated. In the top right corner, you will come across integrated status lights. Buttons have also been provided for quick access to connectivity options in the top left.
The back of the keyboard is where you will find space for a USB receiver. Textured PBT has been used for the keycaps and this is certainly an upgrade. The back also has a very simple interface, as there is only one on and off switch and a USB-C port. The buttons on the top come in handy for pairing purposes. The bottom side has the receiver storage and also has two-stage feet that allow you to place the keyboard at a more comfortable angle.
Performance
Logitech has made the real changes inside the keyboard rather than the outside. First off, it has opted for newer GL switches that offer a longer travel at 3.2mm and a higher actuation point as well. Moreover, these switches require less force on your part and they are also more lubricated, which means you can enjoy more smoothness. You will have no trouble in typing thousands of words and the keys are also responsive during gaming.
Even in terms of acoustics, the keys are very impressive because there is no rattling of any kind. Several layers of sound dampening foam has been used, which means the sound is very pleasant. You have Bluetooth for wireless connectivity and Lightspeed USB-A receiver.
Software and Lighting
The G515 Lightspeed TKL takes full advantage of Logitech’s G Hub software, which you can use on macOS and Windows. You can remap three layers of every key, which include the function layer, base layer and the G-Shift layer. The remapping process is also very straightforward and you can also select elements like whether to press down the key, release, or hold it. You also have the freedom to customize lighting. A number of preset modes are provided, or you can also select from a number of other effects referred to as ‘Animations’. The RGB lighting is excellent and bright.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a responsive and tactile keyboard at a reasonable price, the Logitech G515 Lightspeed TKL is a good option.
