Even though it is named the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, the phone is the fifth flip phone that Samsung has introduced in the last few years. When it launched the first couple of generations, it did not have any such competition. But now, things have changed, as there are alternatives, such as the Razr Ultra from Motorola.
Design and Build
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts the same design as its predecessor. The regular phone screen is large and reveals the small cover display when you fold it in half. The latter comes with a 3.4-inch panel and it has chunky bezels, which make it seem dated. The internal display, on the other hand, is significantly more modern. However, you can immediately tell that it is a foldable.
To begin with, there is the crease in the middle that divides the screen into two halves. Samsung has made considerable effort to minimize its impact. Therefore, it is only visible when you look at it form a certain angle. The edge of the display is plastic, which may look cheap, but protects the phone. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and aluminum have been used for further strengthening the device.
The end result is a phone that feels quite robust and it also folds completely flat, something its predecessors could not do. The Z Flip 6 is also very compact and weighs only 187g, which makes it very light too. The right side is where you will find the power button and it has a built-in fingerprint scanner. There is a lot of variety of colors you can get. These include White, Peach, Crafted Black, Yellow, Blue, Mint and Silver Shadow.
Screens and Speakers
The two displays of the Z Flip 6 are OLEDs, with the cover screen measuring 3.4-inches and the internal display measuring 6.7-inches. They offer vibrant, rich colors and do not lack in clarity and detail. The cover screen shows a slimmed-down version of apps. The internal screen comes with a higher resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz.
An LTPO panel means that it can adjust the refresh rate. The phone feels responsive and fluid. There are dual stereo speakers used that deliver full-bodied audio. You can enjoy great clarity and the sound does not get distorted at high volumes.
Specs and Performance
Samsung has opted to power the Z Flip 6 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. But, it is the version ‘For Galaxy’, which means it is a bit different from the regular Qualcomm chipset. You can enjoy superb performance. Whether you are web browsing, taking photos, watching videos, or doing anything else, there is no lag or slowdown.
This strong performance also applies when you are gaming. The phone does overheat a bit, but it goes down eventually. You have 256 and 512GB storage options and no expandable storage. The Z Flip 6 comes with 12GB RAM, which is higher than its predecessor and you can feel the difference.
The Verdict
Samsung has also made significant upgrades to camera, software support and dust resistance in the Z Flip 6, which makes it the best flip phone that it has made so far.
