The number of true wireless earbuds in the market is growing and Soundpeats GoFree 2 has also joined the mix. They have an open-ear, air conduction design that can deliver sound to your ears and still keep you aware of your surroundings.
Design
The good thing about the GoFree 2 is that they look very similar to the Shokz OpenFit and they are ear hook-style earbuds that do not clamp to your ears. The ear hook is flexible and slim and wraps over the top of your ear and is connected to the earbud. The two components have great balance and are able to provide a secure and comfortable fit. You will only find them available in black and no other color.
You will find touch controls provided on the outside of the earbuds. You can operate them with a long press, or tap them once, twice and three times. These are useful for skipping tracks, adjusting volume, answering or rejecting calls and activating the smart assistant. However, you should bear in mind that there is no option to customize controls.
A matte black plastic charging case is also available with the earbuds, which has a USB-C port at the back. The front has a small notification light to let you know when the buds are charging, along with the case.
Features
You will also find some extra features in the GoFree 2, along with standard ones. These include support for LDAC Bluetooth codec, a gaming mode that offers low latency as well as Bluetooth Multipoint sharing. As far as battery life is concerned, it is quite decent, but not exactly outstanding. A single charge gives you 9 hours, while you can get a total of 35 hours if you have a fully charged case. You will not find a quick charging feature here. Battery status can be checked via the Soundpeats app.
Sound Quality
There are 16.2mm dynamic drivers that have been used in the GoFree 2 for improving sound performance. You will find a custom equalizer, EQ presets as well as an adaptive EQ inside the companion app.
According to Soundpeats, the earbuds can deliver dynamic, crisp and detailed audio. You can also enjoy rich bass. They certainly sound better than a number of expensive open air conduction headphones in the market.
Their overall sound quality is definitely on the strong side and the open-ear experience is also impressive. While you cannot expect exceptional clarity, it is still quite decent. They have a foundation of great sound, but do falter in some places.
When it comes to vocals, you will find that they have a nice warmth to them. But, they will not sound as bright, or as balanced as some of their more expensive competitors.
The Verdict
If you are looking for open-ear wireless buds that are not as pricey as others in the market, the Soundpeats GoFree 2 are a good option. Their design is impressive and comfortable and they can offer you a reliable fit, combined with decent sound for the most part. Plus, there is no need to burn a hole in your pocket to get them.
